Have you asked yourself that question in the last 10 years? Even if you haven’t it’s probably cause Nintendo doesn’t matter enough to warrant the pondering thought.

Truth is, Nintendo is boring. When Microsoft and Sony speak, people listen. At TGS, E3, Gamersday and all the other conventions, Sony and Microsoft are the big draws. People, journalist, news outlets and consumers want to know what they are up to. They hang on their every word.

Not Nintendo, though. Nope, people could give a piss less about what Nintendo ever has to say. They know at the end of the day nintendo will shw off an old IP with a new number behind it and a couple new plastic add ons to make you look even more foolish at home. This entry isn’t about how little Nintendo matters to the hardcore crowd, though. This is about what Nintendo has and hasn’t done in the last 10 years.

Nintendo hasn’t pushed the industry forward since the Snes. Let’s be honest here. The N64 was a crippled mess of a joke that Dane Cook’s unfunny ass wouldn’t even touch for material. The gimped, let’s hold the industry back 5 more years, cartridges they used only drove this point home further. The Gamecube was a laughing stock on an epic scale, only selling 30 million units its entire life span and not only that, got bested by the resident new comer Microsoft and their xbox system.

The wi is utter junk. Look at the meta scores and % of how many AAA games they’ve got in the 80% let alone the 90% range. They have the least amount of solid games, and that’s not even touching the lack of AAA games, either. The wii is running on outdated hardware, which if you read my review you’ll know all of that. The wii isn’t even pushing the industry further by its shoddy motion controls, either.

Why you ask? Cause we still have to use an Analog attachment to control our characters on screen. The wii is fundamentally the same machine as the game cube with slight motion control features. All there is to it. And when I say “slight” I mean “slight” … People have bought into a fad without doing research. They buy the wii cause a friend did or an uninformed cheap parent did and that is the truth and facts as they are presented and stacked, kids.

Nintendo hasn’t made a new franchise worth a damn or that was an original thought since the early 80’s. They reuse and rehash all their material over and over again. It becomes a rollercoaster ride with open shitbags tied to front cart.

So we know what Nintendo doesn’t do now, but what about the other side of the coin? What about resident new comer Microsoft? What have they done in their short time in the industry that Nintendo hasn’t? Well, everything.

Microsoft has brought online gaming to the fold for console gamers. They took their PC savvy and really drove it home with their 1st system. Sure the Dreamcast was there as one of the 1st online consoles, if not the 1st, but Microsoft made it work. Their xbox live community is a beast of burden to no one but Sony and Nintendo, cause they can’t seem to understand, or get it right.

Microsoft has solidified itself as a true player in securing major franchises that sell millions and millions around the world and continue to make long strides everyday by getting new technology into their house and, more importantly, new IP. Nintendo has no idea what this means, as they are often too busy molding new plastic add ons for their consumers to buy.

Microsoft ha revolutionised the console gaming industry in just 8 short years, like Nintendo only wished it could have done.

So, when I see people giving Nintendo all this credit for doing nothing but keeping their wheels spinning, I tend to want to speak out about it. The facts are the facts and xbox live has been more beneficial and more market changing than any Nintendo wii ever has been. Sure casual gamers tell me differently, but the casual gamers don’t support the industry, the hardcore xbox/ live and Sony/PSN owners do.

As i drive the final nail into the coffin here, Microsoft absolutely has done more for the video game Industry than Nintendo ever has. Bringing more people together world wide every day than Nintendo ever has. Microsoft, although I don’t agree with everything they do, is a major player in this industry and a very underrated one at that.

Microsoft is Sony’s only true rival as they are the only two pushing the industry forward through technology and online capabilities and what our systems give us back in return.
