Is this the future for gaming? Could this be next gen material or just another pile of junk that doesn’t work. Its called Emotiv EPOC and it breaks the boundaries for controllers. First Wii came out with motion sensor controllers but this is way past hand held objects. You are now able to control things with your brain.
This new toy for us gamers lets us control what happens in the game threw out thoughts. It has a set amount of sensors to tune into electric signals naturally produced by the brain.
the headset features are:

*14 Electrodes offer optimal sensor positioning for accurate spatial resolution
* Gyroscope generates positional information for cursors and camera controls
* Hi-performance wireless gives players total range of motion
* Dongle is PC compatible and requires no cutom drives
* and Lithium batteries provides 12 hours of continuous use

“The Emotiv EPOC is currently in beta and is working well. We’ve seen great success from our demonstrations at both Game Developers Conference 2008 and at the Intel Developers Forum in August. Feedback has been great and everyone who has tried it has been amazed at the experience of gaming with the EPOC headset. We will be soliciting beta testers in the San Francisco Bay Area over the next few months to help us with the final testing of the headset. We expect to be able to deliver the product to you in 2009 once the final beta testing is complete. ” From the Emotiv.com

GOW3 Producer Steve Caterson Throws an Indirect Jab at Gears 2 Gameplay Mechanic

Posted by hiphopgamer | Real Talk with the HipHopGamer | Saturday 14 February 2009 5:51 am

By now, I suppose everyone has seen the recent trailer on the earliest build of God of War 3. Jaws dropped to the floor at the scale of the game. The game looks beautiful to the extent that a gory, dark, & gloomy world can look like. The beauty of the game is backed by Sony which has confirmed that the video is in real time. If there’s anyone that can say it actually is in real time, it’s Sony, when you think about Killzone 2 09 surpassing the pre-rendered video no one believed back in 05. This game looks and moves amazing. Kratos’ movements seem to be even better than those of his predecessors with flawless styles; this is truly Kratos in next-gen life. It will definitely set a new standard for action/adventure games.

During one of the development interviews revealed on GameTrailers.com, Steve Caterson, producer of God of War 2 & 3, and the art director of God of War 1 says that when you ride an enemy, Kratos isn’t standing on an enemy, befriending the enemy telling him what to do. If you don’t know where this happened, it’s taken right out of Gears of War 2. Specifically, the part when Marcus Fenix mounts the Brumack (By the way, is it just me that hates Marcus’s attitude? He tries too hard IMO) and it’s actually right on target. No enemy ever would allow you to mount its back mysteriously joining your side to fight and kill its own people instead of knocking you down and smashing/eating you. No, instead Steve Caterson said you will be able to mount these titans and manipulate their attacks by inflicting damage to them. He went on by saying on an interview with G4TV by saying 1 on 1 fights are different than 1 on 100. He said you have to fight hordes of enemies differently than you would just one enemy (this could be taking as a shot to many games, seeing how so many of them have the same mechanics when comparing a 1 on 1 fight to a 1 on various enemies fight). He said many games today just have these large scale battles, for example 1 on 100, just for the sake of being large scaled. If GoW3 has these large scale battles, he said it would be for a good reason. On a side note, he said that you will have a David & Goliath feel to it with these monumental fights featured in the game. He said the Titans will have the ability to interactively change the playing fields. The game is amounting to be epic already; and another AAA for Sony.

God of War has a long way to go, but so much has already been proven (the Killzone 2 effect) and history is set to repeat itself in the form of Kratos. Master Chief has Microsoft, Mario has Nintendo, & God of War has the Playstation, the big black box with all its power. Sony is already living up to the hype far beyond as being the leading console in overall entertainment quality and for a better deal.

(Look At The Video Below, 1:44 in you’ll hear the official quote and indirect jab at Gears 2. “Kratos isn’t standing on an enemy and now all of a sudden the enemy becomes his friend and is killing off his own kind because Kratos is telling it too”)

Escape From City 17: Part One

This video (above) was first posted on the forums by:jmd749 and i thought i might look into it more. What turned up is, this was a video made just to show off and see if it could be done. The Purchase Brothers are independent filmmakers and commercial directors, they have released the first part of their Half-Life-inspired short film series(above). It was originally developed to test post-production techniques for their work, as well as to create a ’spec’ commercial to demonstrate their talents, it eventually became a series of shorts telling a story within the Half-Life universe.

The Purchase Bros describe the production as “guerilla style with no money, no time, no crew, no script, the first two episodes were made from beginning to end on a budget of $500.” They got full support of Valve since the video was released. It is not coming to the theatres near you, well not yet atleast. But keep a eye out for this one, it might not end up in the theatres but it sure makes a damn good youtube video!

Tell me what you think of the video in the comment box below.
