The question comes to mind after buying all those Madden titles and seeing that they only have one new feature. Year after year Madden makes little improvements but overall, the presentation is always average. When you win the Super Bowl, it doesn’t feel like you’ve won anything at all. The online is roughly the same just more polished but we still receive a considerable amount of lag. Graphics have been updated but nothing like the E3 trailer back in 06; the graphics unfortunately, seem to have peaked.
Things may always change, maybe even this time around and we have one reason why, Peter Moore. Peter Moore is turning things around over at EA and looking at NBA Streets Home Court, NBA Live 09 was a great step up. Sure it still needs improvements but it’s a relief to see them trying. Madden 09 was the biggest step up in a year over year evaluation than any other game we’ve seen thus far. Another game that’s most notably however, is Fight Night Round 4; it’s the real deal when it comes to boxing. But we don’t need to get into all of these games; I’m mainly talking about Madden.
Madden 10 is said to have a brand new engine(finally), so graphics & game play should look and feel a hell of a lot better. They are adopting Endorphin, an animation tool set to make the game look real as the action happens in real-time. ESPN NFL 2k5 was a remarkable game and it’s a shame that a game from 2005 still up-stages the newest games in the Madden series, but hopefully that ends here. The bar has been rose long before the current gen sports games were released and EA needs to show that it can live up to the expectations of what a football game should be; with Peter Moore In charge; we may just finally get the Madden game that we’ve always wanted.
What needs to be done is: Madden should have super realistic graphics, game play that’s looks and feels right, a super bowl championship ending that’s satisfying, and an online league that will bring gamers together like never before. This is all very possible as well, seeing how games like skate were able to exceed the expectations of what a skating game should be; one can say skate revolutionized the skating game series. If a skating game can have a major overhaul in game play, then this can be accomplished with graphics as well seeing how games like Gear of Wars 2 and Killzone 2 look phenomenal. I doubt that a game like Madden or any other sports game take up as much memory as a game like Gears of War2 or Killzone 2. They have plenty of room; this is all just a matter of squeezing out pennies from customers as much as they can. They need to stop releasing half ass games and give us what’s to be expected.
Look out for Madden NFL 10 (or 2010) this year because according to some inside sources this will be another major jump since the last Madden instead of just a mild difference on the cover that people have been spending 60 dollars over the past years.
