Killzone 2 was just released last week and has received positive reception. Speculation has arisen to how well the game will do on the market and we may be getting our first indications now. Halo Wars Limited retailing for $79.99 currently holds the 6th place spot on top sellers within the Video Game department while Killzone 2 lags behind at 9th place.

This can’t bode well for Sony when a game selling at $20 more if outselling one of the most hyped games released for the PS3. Sony has long been criticized for not marketing Killzone 2 enough. It appears that although hardcore Sony fans have made their purchase the mainstream market has yet to notice.

Amazon’s sales are updated on an hourly basis and we should expect more data as time wears on.

Microsoft Continues To Rise over Sony This Generation with Exclusivity

Posted by hiphopgamer | Real Talk with the HipHopGamer | Sunday 1 March 2009 11:08 pm

Microsoft has benefited out of the gate over Sony with multi-platform titles. They have continued to again and again deliver better games, whether the games were exclusive to the 360 or they were multiplatform; I will explain what I mean further down. Aside from that, Microsoft is making quick moves with time exclusivity such as Lost Planet & Bioshock. These are examples of how Microsoft continues to edge out Sony’s machine and 3 years later it’s still present in this console war.

The Lost Planet 2 trailer debuted on XBL showing us an amazing looking game. Microsoft snagged time exclusivity on Lost Planet 2 again. What this means is that fans of the series and new fans to the game will want the game sooner rather than later, so they will spring for the 360 version over the PS3 version. The sales are going to be massive, by the time the PS3 version drops, most gamers will already have their copy and not bother purchasing a second for another console. Microsoft is also making moves capitalizing with the DLC available for multiplatform games. For instance, Microsoft was able to grab exclusive DLC for GTA4 & Fallout 3; a great step in utilizing fans of those series to go out for the 360 version over the PS3. Microsoft was also able to get their hands on a 360 bundle of Resident Evil 5 which looks amazing by the way; Sony has not unveiled any new bundles & if they did, most likely it would feature a PS3 exclusive game rather than a multiplatform. All this is shows how Microsoft is able to make multiplatform games more a less 360 exclusives.

When you have big franchises like these, you’re supposed to represent it properly and Microsoft once again shows Sony how to do it right. This is the first Resident Evil game ever to be featured on Microsoft’s consoles and they went out of their way to give fans a brand new reason not to just buy the game on their console, but to buy the system along with it as well. Even without a Run & Gun system or other fan favorite features (Mine includes the suit case); Capcom is easily going to reach the 1 Million mark with RE5 fairly shortly. We have seen it many times before and we’ll continue to see it in the future, that Microsoft will continue showing 3rd Party developers love and support. This competitive edge will more than likely give the crown to Microsoft’s console in this generation of console wars.

VGChartz has today released preliminary data which suggests that Killzone 2 has already passed the 750,000 sales mark since launch. This would put the game third behind Grant Theft Auto 4 and Metal Gear Solid 4 in the list of fastest sellers on the PS3.

Early reports from retailers also suggest that there was “only a modest” increase in sales of PS3 hardware from the release of Killzone 2 but this was to be expected since Killzone 2 is selling primarily to existing PS3 owners and the true effect on hardware sales will only been seen over the next few weeks.

Braid Coming to PS3? Wow This Will Be Cool

Hothead Games, publishers of Penny Arcade Adventures, have recently aquired, the former XBLA exclusive, Braid for release on PC and Mac. Now, I know what you’re thinking, “how does this relate to a PS3 version?”, well with Hothead now having the rights to distribute on other platforms this could mean that Jonathan Blow’s game could be hitting the PlayStation Store in the future. Of course this is only speculation for now, but personally I can see it happening. We’re in a recession and indie developers need money too. Here’s hoping anyway.

Representing West Coast Aaron Greenberg (Xbox) & Rapper The Game Keep It Gangsta Aaron

Last night, for those that missed it. Hip Hop artists The Game performed at Showbox SoDo in Seattle, WA. After the show Aaron Greenberg had a chance to hang out with The Game and talk a bit about his favorite games:

Quote:
The Game was in town last night and got to hang out with him after the show. Not sure if you have met him, but super cool guy and also a hardcore gamer. He told me he is mainly playing NBA 2K9 and COD right now. I am sure you remember when he played Bow Wow on Madden on Xbox 360 and beat Bow Wow pretty badly.
I see both are throwing the West Coast signs. All we need is a video of Aaron doing the Crip Walk dance.

Gurreilla: “We Had Better Pull This One Off” And Hell Yeah They Did

Killzone 2 is finally here but it did suffer through that controversial trailer at E3 2005 quite alot. Guerrilla Games have said the trailer has provided them with inspiration to make the game not only be so good but look so good too.

But what if your were up against it after that trailer? Well, according to Managing Director of Guerrilla Games, Hermen Hurst, they needed to pull this one off.

In the latest GameTrailers newsletter, an interview with Hurst reveals what happened moments after the trailer was shown at E3 2005.

Asked what was his most embarrassing/memorable moment working in the industry, he said:

“One “uh-oh moment” during my time at Guerrilla was definitely E3 2005. Phil [Harrison, then head of Sony's WWS] had just shown our KZ2 concept trailer, the conference hall explodes, Phil asks JB [Jan-Bart van Beek], our Art Director and I to stand up, we get a standing ovation, look at each other, JB says: “that rocked!” and I say: “Damn, we’d better pull this one off”!“

But hey no worries, they did emphatically. It really is a game worth getting, it’s why we gave it a 10 in our review released early this morning.
