Hideo Kojima talks about the new design techniques he wants to use for the next Metal Gear.

Insomniac Games and Sony revealed the next game in the Ratchet & Clank series today. Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time will conclude the story that began with Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction and continued in Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty. The game comes out this fall for the PlayStation 3, and, according to Insomniac’s James Stevenson, it will be a “full retail Blu-ray release.” No more downloadable Ratchet & Clank adventures, folks; it’s back to the big leagues for the critically lauded duo. Here’s how Sony describes the plot of this sci-fi, time travel adventure:
“After discovering that lovable robot Clank’s disappearance was engineered by Dr. Nefarious, the Wrench-swinging Ratchet races to save his best friend. Along the way, both will finally uncover the hidden truth behind their origins, and discover their ultimate destinies.”
Ultimate destinies, eh? That’s some heady stuff for a video game comedy team… but time travel? I’m hooked.
According to Sony, the witty banter and comedy we’ve come to love and expect from Ratchet & Clank are back, but with space battles, star system exploration and “hidden items and collectibles.” Oh, and new weapons — one of which was designed by a fan!
Right now, those details and the nifty logo above are all we have on the game, but as soon as there is more to say, I’ll say it!

After a rousing speech taking audience members through the entire Metal Gear franchise the last image we were left with was a bold still which reads “Mission: The Next MGS”. Furthermore, planted in the top right corner of the still is a clear impression of the cyber ninja Raiden (close-up after the cut):

Which leads us to Kojima’s interview earlier this week with IGN, where he stated that work was currently underway on a new game and that “An official game announcement will be made at E3.” Could the images above be the smoking gun for the next Metal Gear Solid to be a Raiden-specific outing? Given that of course, there was no other mention of specifics or hints given throughout the keynote, for we’ll have to wait and see not when, but what will be announced at this year’s E3.
There’s definite writing on the wall, but what’s your theory on the official announcement at E3?

Today during his keynote at GDC, Hideo Kojima made some interesting comments about what he wants to do in the future for both new projects, and the Metal Gear franchise. During the later part of his address, he spoke about how Japanese developers tend to make ”designer-driven game design” for games while the current trend is in the West with ”technology-based game design.” He says the West has it right with, “having open world game design, going anywhere, riding on any vehicle.” He later adds, “”In the future of Kojima productions, I want to do it this way. I want to add both the Western game design philosophy and the game design ladder. That’s my image of the next Metal Gear.”
Very interesting words from a very interesting man. He also notes how he wants to continue to make the “impossible possible.” He’s already announced that he will be revealing his next game at E3, but what will it be, and how much will his game philosophy change? He notes that he likes the idea of open world games and being able to interact with everything, so who knows what is possible? All the world knows for now that it will most likely be an amazing game.
Here it is folks. First gameplay video of GOW3. Although the visuals don’t look outstandingly awesome, we must remember that it is a sketchy youtube video, and also that the game still has a long way to go in terms of development. But what is impressive is how many enemies are on the screen at once, seamlessly. Check out the video below.

I hope this game can teach me chinese. It is looking like it will work, and if it does, that is something I am willing to spend some cash on to try out. Real interesting way of learning a new language
Click on the pictures to see bigger versions. The game is looking nice. The series did well in Japan, and lets hope it does just as good in the US.
