Bungie Maybe Looking At PS3 Opportunities

Posted by MattG | Real Talk with the HipHopGamer | Friday 27 March 2009 11:16 pm

Introduction

When you think Bungie, you most likely think Halo. When you think Halo, you think Microsoft. Ever since the release of Halo: Combat Evolved and the original Xbox in 2001, Bungie has only been working on the Halo games for the Xbox consoles. Now with Halo 3: ODST almost complete, there have been rumblings at GDC that Bungie’s next game could branch out and actually be multi-platform. This game will not be anything in the Halo universe since Microsoft owns the right to the franchise, but a new game coming from Bungie Studio’s for the PS3 as well as the 360 would be great for gamers everywhere. The question is if this is a rumor, and why Bungie would do this?

Money

Bungie is no longer owned by Microsoft and are free to make their games for whoever they please. With Bungie recently announcing that Halo 3:ODST is the last of new content they are releasing for Halo 3, they will have a lot of time on their hands. Without 1st party support from Microsoft, Bungie needs and probably wants to make as much money as possible. With a new multi-platform game they will be able to make the money they are accustomed to with the Halo franchise.

Expand their Fanbase

For years only Xbox owners have been able to enjoy the high-quality games that Bungie produces. Playstation owners have not been able to enjoy these games, and any game developer wants as many people as possible to enjoy their games. With the opportunity to make a new franchise, Bungie will want the maximum number of players to enjoy their work.

Create a Legacy Bigger Than Halo

If Bungie was to close today they would be remembered for the Halo franchise. While that is nice, why not create another franchise of even equal or greater quality? Cement their legacy for not only one game, but multiple franchises. These guys have been working in one universe for over eight years, they probably have had ideas for games that they wanted to take care of for years. With their schedule opening up in the future they can create new IP’s that they have been wanting to for years.

The Word Going Around Town

Like mentioned earlier, a rumor surfaced at GDC that Bungie is currently working on a new multi-platform franchise. On top of that it is also believed that this franchise will be revealed at E3 this year. This is a great thing for PS3 owners. It allows owners of the PS3 to play a game from one of the best studios in the gaming industry. Hopefully this is true because it allows more gamers to enjoy more quality games. It is also exciting for fans of Bungie Studios because it allows them to try something new instead of Halo. Overall this is great for everyone if true, but it is especially great for PS3 owners. Can’t wait to see what Bungie has in store at E3 this year.

Crytek: CryEngine 3 "will run slightly better" on PS3

In an interview with IGN, Crytek President and CEO Cevat Yerli stated that CryEngine 3 “will run slightly better” on the PlayStation 3. The difference may be negligible to gamers themselves, however, as Yerli also remarked that “it’ll look and feel probably the same” on both platforms.

“The CE3 runs currently at more or less the same quality bar,” Yerli asserted. “I say more or less because the engine still optimizes itself to power of the platforms’ intrinsics. So the PS3 will run slightly better here, it’ll look and feel probably the same, but the engine is diverting computation needs to power subsystems available to the PS3, and the 360 differently, and PC differently.”

Yerli seemed a bit unsur

Fallout 3 Developer ‘Working on Lots of DLC’

In an apparently overlooked tidbit from a GDC panel earlier this week, Fallout 3 lead designer Emil Pagliarulo revealed that the team at Bethesda is hard at work on more downloadable content for the post-apocalyptic action-RPG.

“I can say we’re working on lots of DLC,” he said. “Lots of stuff brewing up here. God only knows where that may go. What famous landmarks can we destroy next?”

Bethesda has currently released two pieces of Fallout 3 DLC on Xbox 360 and PC. Each download is priced at $10 and each adds new quests, items and weapons. A third, “Broken Steel,” arrives next month and picks up where the main game ended.

Thus far, the DLC has not made its way to the PS3 edition of the acclaimed game due to Microsoft’s long-known PC and Xbox 360 exclusivity on “substantial” Fallout 3 DLC.

Guerrilla Games – Angie Smets Creates Best Multiplayer in a First Person Shooter

Posted by hiphopgamer | Real Talk with the HipHopGamer | Friday 27 March 2009 7:01 pm

Introduction:
Many factors are put into consideration when developing a great game with outstanding Single player and Multiplayer. The Video game industry has always been a man’s world though women have made their rise here and their making brief appearance. Most Games are revolved around a single player experience with multiplayer implemented later down the development. Let me specify.

• Video games have always been spear headed by the “Man”. Unfortunately for female gamers everywhere, man has a two dimensional mind of what females want on their games. Man assumes a female gamer wants to play on a fairy tale game, but the reality of it is they are just the same type of gamers as the rest of us. I don’t want to seem too “Pro-feminism” bashing on man because we already have Dr. Phil for that. Killzone 2 had a female perspective which helped developers keep their mind focus and intact with the female gamer.

• Angie Smets, staff member of Guerrilla Games laid it down on Halo, Call of Duty, and Resistance, all of which were developed focusing on single player. One of the ways Killzone 2 was able to be so successful online was that it was built around multiplayer instead of single player. Although there were a few problems finding games there was nothing wrong with the game play itself. Guerrilla Games utilized the PS3’s potential to get not just the best graphics but the engine alone helped to create a balanced experience in the multiplayer field. 32 players online with no lag and no drop in graphics are unheard of yet Guerrilla games pulled it off and Angie Smets Was the genius behind the online functionality. She stayed by Guerrilla games and helped them develop one of the most beloved games this generation. Female gamers should continue doing multiplayer if these are going to be the results. Angie Smets job title is Senior Producer at Guerrilla Games and there’s tons more of Killzone 2 content to be released.

Summary:
With Angie Smets behind KZ2, I would like to see what Call of Duty MW2 can pull off because right now, Killzone 2 is the champ and those SPU’s in the PS3; Angie proved that this system is in a league of its own. Most games center in the world of single player and there for cause the multiplayer to have downgraded graphics or a cheapened experience, but not Killzone 2. It was solemnly focused around multiplayer.

Capcom interested in Wiiware filesize after the SDHC support

Seems the fans are not the only people interested in the benefits of the new Wii Menu update / SD storage solution.

Here is the statement made by Capcom’s Christian Svensson:

“Code execution from SDROM we were not pre-briefed on (or at least I wasn’t). Arcade we’ve known about for a good while…I’ve got no news to share on this [Virtual Console Arcade]. Sorry. ….I’m not commenting on specific titles at this time BUT…They’ve fixed something (regarding storage) for consumers which is fantastic… the question is, does this change allow for a change in the filesize limitations that the Wiiware program has had. That was notably absent from Iwata’s keynote but is a question I will be following up on with our reps at Nintendo. I’m hopeful.”

BREAKING NEWS: T.I. Sentenced To A Year And A Day In Prison

MTV reports:

ATLANTA — A Northern Georgia District judge sentenced T.I. to one year and one day in prison on felony weapons charges Friday (March 27), calling the rapper’s plea deal “experimental” but a success.

Judge Charles Pannell Jr. told the rapper he had more than exceeded the court’s expectations, and he hoped his case would inspire similar plea deals.

Tip is scheduled to report to prison voluntarily within the next six to eight weeks. However, the judge acknowledged that the rapper has agreed-upon commitments what will not allow him to enter prison before May 19.

Shortly before 9:30 a.m., the rapper arrived at the 23rd-floor chamber. His manager, Jason Geter, was present beforehand. The sterile building was largely quiet as federal workers, lawyers, and citizens slowly filed in. The courtroom was filled with a mix of teens, curious employees from the building, and the rapper’s family, including his longtime partner, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle. A hushed tone overtook the room with T.I.’s entrance. Lawyers were still entering.

T.I., wearing a charcoal grey suit, dark dress shirt and matching tie, was greeted warmly by his legal team. His spirits appeared up as he flashed a smile to different people as he scanned the room.

T.I. — who will discuss how he feels about his upcoming jail time on “T.I.’s Road to Redemption: The Reckoning,” airing Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET on MTV — made a plea deal last March that suggested if he completed 1,000 hours of community service before sentencing, paid a $100,000 fine and agreed to complete another 500 hours of community service after his time behind bars, he would be sentenced to a year and a day in prison.

The sentence is notable, according to legal experts, because of the specific length. If T.I. were to be sentenced to one year in prison, for example, he would be required to complete the entire sentence. The sentence of one year and one day could allow T.I. to be released earlier for good behavior, if warranted.

Don’t miss “T.I.’s Road to Redemption: The Reckoning,” airing Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.

HOLD YOUR HEAD UP T.I. …..
