As a kid I played all the classic SNES games like Mario and Zelda, but there was another game that took up hours of my time. That game was Mario Paint. Mario Paint is a mixture of so many fun gameplay features for young kids that I think it would be a perfect game to revive for either the DS or Wii. The main gameplay component was the painting feature, and now with the motion controller you could use the controller as a paintbrush.
The game was not only just a better version of Microsoft Paint, but it also had a music generator. This isn’t like Wii Music or Rock Band, but rather you create your own sheet music in a very simple process that was loads of fun. Here’s an example of what was possible with this music generator:
Not only did players have the painting modes and the music generator, but also mini games like Gnat Attack. Gnat Attack basically turns the player into a fly swatter as they take down flies. This would be great with the Wii controls as well.
Nowadays with modern technology they could add a bunch of new features to a game like Mario Paint, and make it a blast for the younger generation. Instead of games like Nintendogs, why not make a game like this? They could make the music generator a little bit more sophisticated, add some more mini-games, and allow players to express their creativity with the painting options.
This is the type of “casual” game that Nintendo should make in my opinion. It fits perfectly for the market they are going for, and actually are fun to use with Wii controls. Come on Nintendo, why not Mario Paint?
