A few months ago rumors started to surface that Square Enix, the Japanese RPG developer, was interested in buying Eidos, the studio responsible for the Tomb Raider series. Well tomorrow it will be official that Eidos will be apart of Square Enix. After agreeing to an acquisition in February, a court approved the acquisition yesterday. Eidos was bought for $117 million, and the acquisition was approved by 85% of Eidos stockholders. Eidos also brings Deux Ex and the Hitman series to Square Enix. The merger will become official April 23rd.

Welcoming controversy Angels & Demons

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Director Ron Howard on Tuesday defended his film adaptation of “The Da Vinci Code” author Dan Brown ’s ” Angels & Demons ” from criticism that it smears the Roman Catholic Church , heightening an ongoing battle over fictional depictions of the Vatican.

Howard, who also directed the 2006 movie adaptation of ” The Da Vinci Code ,” posted a blog at The Huffington Post website saying that neither he nor his new movie “Angels & Demons,” which debuts in May and stars Tom Hanks , are anti-Catholic.

“And let me be a little controversial: I believe Catholics, including most in the hierarchy of the Church , will enjoy the movie for what it is: an exciting mystery, set in the awe-inspiring beauty of Rome,” Howard wrote.

Howard’s post came in response to an opinion piece in the New York Daily News by Bill Donahue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, last week. Donahue accused Brown and Howard of “smearing the Catholic Church with fabulously bogus tales.”

Last year, the Catholic Church refused to let “Angels & Demons” be filmed in churches in Rome because of the Vatican’s outrage over “The Da Vinci Code.”

Howard’s drama “Frost/Nixon” was nominated for best picture at the Academy Awards this year, but lost to ” Slumdog Millionaire .” His other films include ” A Beautiful Mind ,” which won the best picture Oscar and best directing Oscar for 2001, as well as 1995’s ” Apollo 13 .”

Brown this week announced that his follow-up novel to “The Da Vinci Code” will be released in September and is titled “The Lost Symbol.”

Halo Wars DLC Coming.

Ensemble Studios’ sci-fi real-time strategy game Halo Wars shifted 639,000 units in the US during its March debut, according to the NPD Group, a healthy number considering its mixed reception and platform exclusivity. And even though the studio that made Halo Wars isn’t around anymore, Microsoft has made it clear that it has every intention of supporting the game postlaunch.

The publisher announced today the first batch of downloadable content for Halo Wars. Titled the Strategic Options add-on pack, the DLC includes three new game modes for the sci-fi RTS’s online multiplayer component. Though it’s not yet priced, Microsoft expects to release the Strategic Options pack “in the coming weeks.”

The first new mode, Keepaway, is an interpretation of the classic Capture the Flag objective, where teams of players battle for control of a free-roaming Forerunner Sentinel. In Tug of War mode, gamers battle to build the strongest army, as measured by unit numbers, buildings, and resources. Lastly, Reinforcement mode matches players against one another, where extra troops are added to each side in successive waves. The DLC will also offer 100 points’ worth of additional achievements to earn.
