Another Great Xbox 360 Bundle (GTA Edition)

Posted by MattG | Microsoft, Real Talk with the HipHopGamer | Friday 24 April 2009 11:38 pm

Two weeks ago it was revealed that Microsoft would be releasing a new Xbox 360 Elite Bundle that included Halo 3 and Fable 2 for only $399.99. Now Grand Theft Auto is rumored to get the same special treatment. You can get GTAIV, The Lost and Damned, and a 120 GB Xbox 360 Elite for only $399.99.

Question to the Readers:
Do you think these bundles will be a major threat to the PS3 even with a potential price drop? The ability to get a 120 GB hard drive, backwards compatibility, and two great games is a fantastic deal. If you owned neither console and could only buy one, would these bundles motivate you to buy the 360?

X-Men Origins: Wolverine Preview

Posted by MattG | Microsoft, PC, Previews, Real Talk with the HipHopGamer, Sony | Friday 24 April 2009 11:18 pm

Movie games rarely turn out to be major hits. Games such as Iron Man, Spiderman, and Transformers are black eyes when it comes to quality in the gaming industry. The guys at Raven Software hope to change this though with their upcoming video game, X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

The game is based around famed comic book character, Wolverine, and his early story before joining the X-Men. The game talks about Wolverine’s past which begins in the late 1800’s and goes into the late 20th century. For fans of the Origin Comic it mostly covers that story, and his time with Col. William Striker and Weapon X.

The games is rated M(Mature), and thats a good thing for the fans of the comic book because it shows that the development team is not holding anything back. In most movie games, the publisher asks the developer to tone down the game so it will be rated T(Teen) so it can sell more copies. This game is being made for the hardcore by the hardcore.

Many who have played early builds of this game praise it for it’s gameplay. Many compare it to a poor-man’s God of War. While the game may not be the next God of War, expect some great hack and slash gameplay. The claws are supposed to be a devastating weapon which will be fun for the player to use. A lung feature will allow Wolverine to jump to enemies over 20 ft away. Quicktime events are also present in the game to create cinematic, badass experiences.  Another great feature in the game is the regeneration health system. Whenever Wolverine takes damage and receives scars/scratches the player will see him heal in real time.

Characters from the X-Men universe making appearances in the game include Sabretooth, Gambit, Dead Pool, and the iconic Sentinels. The Sentinels will be a fun challenge for gamers.

Gamers looking for a fun hack-slash game, check out the upcoming Wolverine game that comes out on May 1st.

Onlive Business Model Will Cripple Gamestop

how_onlive_works

Onlive bursts onto the scene March 2009. It has been in development for 7 years, and was created by technology entrepenuer Steve Pearlman (Web TV, Quicktime) and his dedicated team of 5, made up of Mike McGarvey (Eidos, PLC), Tom Paquin (Netscape 1.0 and 2.0, Mozilla.org, Firefox, Thunderbird Mail), John Spinale (Eidos, Activision, Bitmo), and Paul V. Weinstein (Checkpoint Software, Zone Labs, Thinklink), bringing with them a vision of what could possibly be the future of digital gaming as we know it.

Onlive connects gamers all over the world with their favorite video games through their HDTV’s, PC’s, and Macs. By connecting gamers to game servers via their broadband at blinding fast speeds. The features will be immense and the promises are looking to be fulfilled, or so they say.

Gamestop’s Business model dates back to the 80’s, 1983 to be exact, when Gamestop was known as Babbages. Babbages was a small software retailer in Dallas, Texas which started out as a passion for gaming but quickly turned into “How do we make a quick profit and rob gamers of their hard earned cash with our crazy buy/sell used games policy.”

The time has come for Gamestop to face the music with over 6,000 stores worldwide, and over 33,000 employees, Gamestop’s selfish/greedy business model will soon come to an end. Onlive looks to be the future of digital distribution with EA, Ubisoft, Take Two, WB Games, Eidos, Nvidia, Atari, Code Masters, Epic Games, THQ, and 2D Boy already on board, Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo will follow suit. Here Lays Gamestop “We had a vision/passion for gaming somewhere along the way we lost our way.” :( R.I.P

Are Single Player Only Games Overpriced?

Posted by bakerboy | Microsoft, Nintendo, Real Talk with the HipHopGamer, Sony | Friday 24 April 2009 9:44 pm

dollar-sign

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve more than likely noticed that multiplayer only titles usually sale for the discount price of $30-$40. Games that provide months, sometimes even years of gameplay, (Warhawk) sale for half the price. Meanwhile, games that provide a mere 8-10 hours of gameplay, with no multiplayer, continue to sale for $60. Is it not fair that single player only games sale at a discount price as well?

There are many that would argue, and rightly so, that developers need to make money. They continue to work hard (in some cases) to provide us with quality material that usually warrants the price of admission. It is also common knowledge that value is often attributed to the longevity of a particular product. Although there are exceptions, this is generally the case. It is my belief that either single player only titles are overpriced, or games that include both an incredible singleplayer and multiplayer are underpriced. It is my opinion that its the former, rather than the latter. To some this will seem like a radical statement, but in actuality there is something here worthy of consideration.

How is it that games such as COD4, Gears of War 2, Killzone 2 and countless others which offer both an exhilerating single player experience, along with a fascinating multiplayer experience, sale for the same price as inFamous and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Meanwhile, it is acceptable for games such as Warhawk and Socom to sell at a discount, while games such as Wanted: Weapons of Fate ,with its 6 hours of gameplay, continue to demand a $60 price tag. How can you defend paying whats equivalent to $10 for each our of gameplay. Keep in mind, this is not MGS4 gameplay, I’m talking about Wanted: Weapons of Fate and many others like it.

I am aware that at times developers invest much time and resources to many of these experiences, thus demanding proper returns. I am also aware that developers do not have to work to program in the countless interactions that can occur while having a multiplayer experience, being that most of the content and experiences are created by the community. I am merely suggesting that publishers consider the quality and replayability of their offerings given the changes of what gamers demand out of the product. There was a time where the single player aspect of a game was all you needed to warrant a hefty price tag; that time has passed. Many games have upped the ante by providing both.

eminem

Earlier this week Eminem revealed the cover art for his latest album, “Relapse”. Like many of Em’s songs, the cover art references his past addictions to prescription drugs by using thousands of pills to form a picture of himself. Can’t wait for May 19 to pick this one up.

Uncharted 2 Multiplayer Beta with inFamous Pre-Order

Posted by Killa-Indian | Features, Real Talk with the HipHopGamer, Sony | Friday 24 April 2009 3:22 pm

The news is out. If you preorder inFamous, you can get your hands on the multiplayer beta for Uncharted 2. This is amazing news, primarily because Uncharted 2 is getting multiplayer, even thought the producers kept on denying it and saying it is a single-player experience. This is truly some “electrifying news.” If you haven’t preordered inFamous, then this is a good reason to go and preorder it. Check out the picture and check the source.
