INTRO:
Ever since Batman: Arkham Aslyum was delayed people raised their eyebrows wondering why? And according to a Best Buy Manager (Remained Nameless) the reason is because THE DARK KNIGHT will be the first hybrid blu-ray to ever hit the market for the Playstation 3.

Point #1
John Koller of Sony confirmed that this method of distribution will happen this year. Here’s a quote coming from John Koller Himself “We are actively pushing, and the way that we see the future is that the movie and the game are placed on the same disc,” said John Koller, director of hardware marketing for the PS3. “There are a lot of developers who say, we have this game based on a movie, wouldn’t it be great to marry these concepts? We will definitely see this stuff this year”. Batman’s delay may very well reveal what John said will happen and this will definitely be a turning point for the Playstation 3 along side the entertainment industry as a whole.

Point #2
The Dark Knight is the second biggest movie ever, and there’s tons of people who does not have the blu-ray version of this movie, yet simply because of price and installed base when compared to the ever lasting DVD medium. Sony knows that this is a big opportunity for some exclusive promotion, already the Joker is exclusive to Playstation 3 now add the movie/game hybrid to that value, you’ve just created a system selling game with the launch of a new standard feature and that’s HYBRID.

picture-289

Point #3
Sony needs a boost in this generation and although they are doing great they can do so much better. Developers will take note and will be very observant on how this Hybrid medium will play out, if this becomes a consistent success then we will finally see more developers utilize money making methods on the Playstation 3 via the blu-ray disc space just like how Microsoft continues to one up Sony with DLC.

Closing
E3 will be full of announcements will this be one of the many things Sony has to show off as far as there business model is concerned?

David Jaffe Reveals New Twisted Metal Info? (Update)

Posted by Agent-X | Real Talk with the HipHopGamer, Sony | Friday 8 May 2009 8:19 pm

Earlier today David Jaffe posted out a screenshot of his email showing an unannounced title. By the looks of it could be Twisted Metal but I’m not quite sure I could be right or wrong. But if you look at the screenshot closely you will be able to see some of the writings on the email.

What we think may be written with the bold words

CHARACTER AND CHARACTER ANIMATION ISSUES

High concept: We need the game to have more personality and feel like an action… our human characters are a big way we are going to get that vibe. I would like to see the following… the milestone and feel it would go a long way to wowing the crowds.

#1 – … animation of capturing him, running over him and dragging him behind your car…
#2 – …gives him personality- right now it’s so dry- needs to feel  action.
a- When he is knocked out of a car and onto the ground he crawls frantically, looking… approaching cars, trying to get away, slipping as he tries to get up.

Not long ago hiphopgamer had a chance to interview David Jaffe about God of War 3, Twisted Metal and other general stuff, but by the looks of it David Jaffe could be hiding something maybe a surprise for the fans, and I’m talking about a new Twisted Metal game, hopefully this game will be announced at E32009, fingers crossed.

Hey guys the same screenshot has been released but this time you can actually seek out the blury part, finally you can see what jaffe wrote.

Resident Evil 5, Street Fighter IV Drive Capcom Growth

Posted by joey3d | Real Talk with the HipHopGamer | Friday 8 May 2009 6:48 pm

capcomlogo

Gamasutra.com Writes:

“The publisher said the release of Resident Evil 5 and Street Fighter IV on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, as well as Monster Hunter Freedom 2G for PSP, helped drive overall sales to ¥91.9 billion ($926.67 million), a 10.6 percent increase from the prior year.

Capcom said sales were the highest they’ve been over the past three consecutive fiscal years.

Operating income was ¥14.6 billion ($147.4 million), up 11.4 percent, and net income was ¥8 billion ($80.77 million), up 3.3 percent.

Resident Evil 5 and Street Fighter IV both launched in Capcom’s fiscal Q4 following the crowded holiday season. Capcom described Resident Evil 5 as a “mega hit,” as the game’s initial shipment was four million units. Street Fighter IV has shipped over two million worldwide.

Continuing strong sales from late in the previous fiscal year was Monster Hunter Freedom 2G for PSP. Released in March 2008, the game has sold 2.55 million units to date.

The publisher also noted other strong performers, including Grand Theft Auto IV for PS3 and Xbox 360 and Mega Man Star Force 3 for Nintendo DS.

Net sales for the home video game segment specifically were ¥63 billion ($636.14 million), a rise of 21.7 percent. Operating income for the segment was ¥16.39 billion ($165.47 million), a year-on-year rise of 41.2 percent.

Capcom also noted a “softening” arcade market: “Under the influence of this sluggish market, existing arcades struggled with a decreased number of visitors. This was due partially to the lack of sales-inducing games, and to the fact that the difference between home video games and arcade games has become negligible.”

Arcade operations of the company’s “Plaza Capcom” locations posted flat sales and a decrease in profits, although actual arcade game sales and profits, driven by Street Fighter IV, were up.

For the year ahead, Capcom expects to beat this year’s results. The company projected net sales to increase to ¥95 billion ($958.87 million) and operating income to rise to ¥15.5 billion ($156.49 million), driven again in part by a growing home video game business.”

My Thoughts: I was thinking about Capcom’s growth recently, after buying Resident Evil 5 and Street Fighter 4, i noticed that both games were published by Capcom. Then i thought “…Wow, the money must be really coming in.”

What other companies you guys think is currently making the most money? Leave your comments.

Possible ‘Beyond Good and Evil 2′ Trailer?

Posted by MattG | Microsoft, PC, Real Talk with the HipHopGamer, Sony | Friday 8 May 2009 4:50 pm

Kotaku released this trailer today claiming that it may just be footage from Ubisoft’s upcoming game, Beyond Good and Evil 2. Is it? We don’t know yet, but the main protagonist in this trailer looks eerie similar to Jade from the original trailer of the game. The trailer looks absolutely phenomenal with great game play and beautiful lighting. Hopefully this is the trailer because it looks great.

Feature: Is Gamestop Serious? Mother’s Day Edition

Posted by MattG | Features, Real Talk with the HipHopGamer | Friday 8 May 2009 3:51 pm

As many of you know, Mother’s Day is this Sunday and of course you either have to buy, make, or give mom something to make her happy. If you don’t then either you dislike your mom, your poor, or you really enjoy pissing women off. Now for those of you who are buying your mom something, I give you one piece of advice, “Do not listen to Gamestop and buy your mother something related to gaming/Nintendo.”

Now if your mom is some cool mom who played Mario back in the 80’s and has been a gamer ever since, ignore my advice. On the other hand, if your mom is the typical woman then Gamestop shouldn’t even cross your mind when it comes to giving her gifts. We all want woman in our lives to be into our mostly male hobby, games.

The reason I’m writing this article is because Gamestop recently sent me their weekly newsletter with this attached:

Mother’s day is the perfect time to make a gamer out of mom! Get to your local GameStop to check out the Nintendo Wii Fit or the Mother’s Day Nintendo DS Lite bundle. While you’re there, pick up a little something for yourself. We won’t tell. Don’t miss the email exclusive coupon below!

Really Gamestop? You really think on the Holiday that was built on gift cards, macaroni homemade cards, and perfume sets that most of our moms would want a Wii Fit? “Hey mom it looked like you needed to lose some weight, so I went to my local Gamestop and picked you up this Wii Fit! You don’t know what it is? Well thats ok because the guys at Gamestop said every mom would enjoy a gift combining video games and losing weight”

Gamestop I know you want to be the “cool” company because pretty much every hardcore gamer who doesn’t work for you hates your ass, but please stop trying to  get us in deep shit with our loved ones just because the Wii is cute and cuddily to the mass public.

Guys, if you want to have a happy mother on Mother’s Day then I suggest either something homemade or from a department store. For the love of God don’t think she will find Zelda or Wii Cooking as a great gift. While it would be nice to have more women into gaming I don’t think it would go over that well during a economic downturn.

OnLive: No News Since GDC. Are They Legit?

Posted by MattG | Real Talk with the HipHopGamer | Friday 8 May 2009 3:34 pm

At GDC ‘09, OnLive was revealed to the world and gamers were very interested in the potential of the service. With the owners of the company telling the media that the gaming service would be released to the US this Winter, it’s easy to assume that they would be marketing the hell out of the service.

Now in May, it has been over a month since GDC ended and there has been no news, videos, photos, or anything pertaining to OnLive since GDC. The service is going to be going up against major companies like Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo with unproven technology and the way they are showing off the product why would anyone want it?

The only proof that the service works is the small booth at GDC that was showcased to only dozens of journalists. Why isn’t this upstart company spending a lot of time selling their product? Some would think they have slowed down to have a big showcase at e3, but at the moment it appears they wil lnot be showing up at e3 at all.

It all just seems very fishy that a company that is new to the gaming world, will not only be absent from it’s biggest event, but also have a very limited marketing approach. There is no release date for the beta yet which was supposed to start in the summer, no official price, and no official release date.

That raises the question to whether OnLive is a legit console competitior. Even if the technology works it dosn’t mean they can beat a Sony or Microsoft with no marketing push. People buy from companies they are comfortable with and so far the guys at OnLive have not proven to be a comfortable commodity in the hardware buisness.

Microsoft Profits Drop, Could This Be A Sign Of The New Console Investment?

Posted by joey3d | Microsoft, Real Talk with the HipHopGamer | Friday 8 May 2009 12:44 am

microsoft_xbox-3602

(Over the last two quarters since the price cut – sales have increased but the company received 75% less profit. For 6 months, year over year. On roughly the same revenue.)

With Microsoft spending a lot of money on exclusive titles, exclusive downloadable content, and new experiences, the company saw profit drop year after year. RROD (Red Ring of Death) is also a cause for the drop. Dealing with this unexplainable malfunction for over 2 years now, Microsoft has loss millions of dollars in replacement systems alone. After Microsoft’s release of the Jasper motherboard, installed on current Xbox 360 models, a new issue is raising up to the RROD’s image, calling itself the E74.

With Mircosoft’s game sells decreasing, the number of pirates online are rising. With most new releases leaked online, Microsoft loses alot of sells. The hardware price cut could also be a reason for the drop. Now at $299, rumors are spreading that if Sony cuts the prices of the Playstation 3, then  Microsoft is planning yet another price cut. Some experts believe that the profit drop could be the sign of the new console investment, possibly the Xbox 720?

What do you think the real reason is? Leave your comments.
