Did Epic Deliberately Delete The Stealth Mission To Cash In On It Later?

Posted by Master Samo | Microsoft, Real Talk with the HipHopGamer | Friday 15 May 2009 11:19 pm

As recently announced, “Gears of War 2: All Fronts Collection” will be a retail package that includes the following DLC packs: “Dark Corners“, “Snowblind“, “Combustible“, and “Flashback“. “Dark Corners” is the new DLC pack that will include seven new maps and a deleted campaign mission titled “Road To Ruin“, which will give you the option of either taking a stealthy approach or going in guns blazing. The package will be available in stores on the 28th of July 2009. At the time of the announcement, I did not notice anything out of the ordinary.

Despite being curious about the reason Epic decided to delete this mission from Gears of War 2, I assumed that the mission did not fit the story or any cutscenes at the time, and that they would’ve required more time to insert it into the game and make it fit into the story that they were telling. However, as I was thinking about this new mission and how interesting it would be to dress up as a Theron guard, I had a moment of clarity that revealed something that I had previously noticed. When I played Gears of War 2, there was a moment in the game that did not make sense to me; there was a missing link between two cutscenes. Suddenly, I remembered that there was a cutscene created to introduce a stealth chapter that I had forgotten about. The cutscene gave me the impression that the following chapter will include stealth, but that chapter never came. If you do not recall, allow me to refresh your memory.

Right after Dom finds Maria, there is a scene where Marcus picks up an armor piece from a dead Theron guard and then says the following: “I found a way to sneak into Nexus, but if you wanna go in guns blazin‘, I don’t blame you”. Thus, it is quite clear that the stealth chapter should have been playable right after this cutscene, but it wasn’t. My question is why? If it didn’t fit the story, or if it wasn’t even planned for the game, I would understand. However, this last quote clearly confirms that not only was this chapter planned, but it was in fact part of the original story!!!

I could let Epic off the hook by simply assuming that they delayed it because the stealth element was a new gameplay that was never before introduced into the Gears of War universe, and they needed more time to polish it, but I won’t. It seems too convenient to delay it and then release it seven months later with a price tag next to it. My frustration is due to the idea that we have already paid for this chapter, and Epic wants us, after two months, to pay for it again.

Lastly, I would like you to answer a few questions before letting you go in order for us to figure out what the best possible action, regarding this matter, would be. My questions to you are the following: What are your thoughts on this matter? Do you believe that Epic deliberately deleted the mission in order to cash in on it later? If that is your belief, do you think it’s fair? More importantly, will you do something about it?

God Bless You All

Mass Effect 2: The Space Epic Continues

Posted by MattG | Movies, PC, Previews, Real Talk with the HipHopGamer | Friday 15 May 2009 10:33 pm

The first Mass Effect was a great game. BioWare did not disappoint in creating a rich RPG experience in space, but will they be able to top that effort in the sequel? Well all signs point to a major hell yes. Everything that has been released pertaining to the game has looked great, and really made the sequel sound light years better than the first.

Mass Effect 2, which is coming out in 2010 for the PC and 360, continues the story of Commander Shepard and his crew as they travel through the galaxy trying to stop the Geth and Reapers from destroying all life in the universe. For gamers who had the chance to play the first game, all their story choices and character models will carry over into Mass Effect 2. The story experience from the first second of the game will be different than someone elses.

A great thing that BioWare is doing is creating some mystery about the status and faith around the main character in the first game, Commander Shepard. The first teaser trailer of the game hinted that he may have been K.I.A (Killed in Action), but no one is sure what exactly that means. This is great because in a world where the internet and TV give us so much news so fast, it’s easy for all the games secrets to be revealed. This is something that BioWare will likely keep close, so that the player will be surprised.

The game play in the first game was fun for a RPG and got the space marine experience across, but it wasn’t perfect. Now it seems that BioWare has tweaked the combat system and cover mechanic to create not only a great RPG experience, but also a great action experience. The graphics and lighting have had a major jump in quality, according to the video below, and looks to improve on  what was already a great looking first game.

An improvement that I personally like is how the new levels are in more populated levels. In the first game the best levels were in the more populated and developed planets, and while I hope they continue to balance it I do like the new planet artwork they have revealed.

While there has been little to no doubt that Mass Effect 2 would live up to the hype set by the first one, the video below only proves how much potential this game will have. The story, graphics, and game play all look to improve in the sequel, and will easily be a GOTY contender in 2010.

Aaron Greenburg debunks leak rumors about E3

Posted by DaSolidProof | Microsoft, Real Talk with the HipHopGamer | Friday 15 May 2009 10:25 pm

greenberg_new

A couple of a days ago, a twitter user that goes by the name of Game Fork, stated that he/she had inside knowledge on what Microsoft will showcase at this year’s E3.

The Internet is full of lies:

The information included Microsoft’s rumored motion-sensing controller, a new game being developed by LionHead studios and a 360 version of Metal Gear Solid 4. Well Microsoft’s Aaron Greenburg says Game Fork  is full of dog poop. Mr. Greenburg told Eurogamer, ”I can confirm that this post is completely uninformed and does not even come close to matching our news for E3. You can’t believe everything you read, but it is fun to see people trying to guess what will be shown at the show and we are excited to share our real news with everyone on June 1st.”

Here is a complete list on what Game Fork predicts for Microsoft’s lineup at this year’s E3:

  • Metal Gear Solid 4“+ Oxide” coming to the 360 (Too funny)
  •  Forza 3 will be playable at the show. (Maybe, but we will have to wait for E3)
  • Alan Wake, Splinter Cell Conviction, Halo ODST, All Points Bulletin, BioShock 2 and Lost Planet 2 will all be at the show. (???)
  • The 360 motion controller will be called Xbox Fluid. (Xbox Fluid?)
  • The next Grand Theft Auto IV DLC will be called “Blood and a Four Leaf Clover.” (???)

The Internet is giving these fanboys to many options to post ridiculous crap. It’s sad to see what fanboys will do to support their system nowadays. Game Fork sounds like another lame person trying to gain recognition, to bad their credibility is damaged now, ignorant fools.

Splinter Cell Conviction Teaser Site Is Live

Posted by PAYBACK-IRONMAN | Microsoft, Real Talk with the HipHopGamer | Friday 15 May 2009 6:30 pm

The teaser site for Ubisofts highly anticipated Splinter Cell Conviction has gone live and its revealed a bunch of new details around the game. When you first enter the site you see three bullet holes, two of the holes are restricted and each one has a date on them, which are May 20th and 28th. I’m sure its obvious that Ubisoft will be revealing more details on the game when both of these respective days arrive.

However there is one bullet hole that is accessible and clicking on it reveals a narration by Sam Fisher basically describing the past events in his life that lead up to  Conviction, while he’s saying this it appears that a satellite that could be trying to track Sam but after a few seconds a message pops saying ” connection lost.” I’m sure that within the next few weeks we will learn a lot more about the title and it seems that Ubisoft could be preparing to finally reveal Splinter Cell at E3 this June.

The Two Games That Could Hold JRPG Fans Over Until FFXIII

Posted by MattG | Microsoft, PC, Real Talk with the HipHopGamer, Sony | Friday 15 May 2009 3:31 pm

Final Fantasy is easily the most well known JRPG worldwide, but with a 2009 release unlikely JRPG fans need something to hold themselves over. There are two major games coming out in 2009 and early 2010 that look to have the potential to be great games. Both coming from well known JRPG studios, End of Eternity and White Knight Chronicles looks to hopefully have a major impact on the JRPG scene.

End of Eternity

Tri-Ace, the developers behind the Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile series, look to have a very interesting project on the horizon with End of Eternity. This is Tri-Ace’s first game not with Square Enix, but rather with SEGA and the director of the game, Takayuki Suguro, has worked on classic hits like Final Fantasy: Tatics and Vagrant Story in the past. The game is set in a city, named Burzel, where Earth is separated by two levels where the rich live in higher levels while the poor live below. All is going fine until a purifier that cleans the city of pollution starts to malfunction.

The story sounds like it has a lot of potential, but what about the game play? Well from the footage that has been released it is obvious that the game is set in a futuristic setting where most of the characters are using guns and mechanical weapons. The game lets the player control one of the three players in your party, and while the game play is in third-person, it does seem like there is a degree of strategy involved. Some have said this may have similarities to SEGA’s other famous JRPG, Valkyria Chronicles.

The game is looking to have either a late 2009 or early 2010 release in the West. While Tri-Ace’s last couple of games have not been critical hits, this project looks to be different. Already with the little info that has been released the story, the gameplay, and the graphics all look better than Star Ocean 4 and Infinite Undiscovery.

White Knight Chronicles

White Knight Chronicles, the upcoming PS3 exclusive, seems to have a lot of potential for gamers wanting a high-quality RPG experience with a deep story and high quality production value. It is being developed by Level 5 who have constantly developed great RPG products including The Dark Cloud series, Rogue Galaxy, and Dragon Quest VIII. Most of their games either range from good to great, and have always been loved by JRPG fans.

Another thing going for the game is the great old school RPG setting. Nowadays there are dozens of different settings for RPG’s from space to futuristic, but there is shrinking amount of old-school dungeons and dragon type settings. The story of White Knight Chronicles begins in the kingdom of Balandor, where a princess’s coming-of-age banquet is raided by an evil Corporation called Wizard. A boy called Leonard grabs the princess’s hand and leads her to safety in the castle cellars, where he finds a strange suit of armor that transforms him into the White Knight.

The  game is supposed to be 100 hours long, and the gameplay is played in the 3rd person. During gameplay the player can transform into the “White Knight” which is comparable to a zephyr in the Final Fantasies, but instead the White Knight is still you. The gameplay is turn based, but it’s a combo based system. Not only does the game come with a interesting single player experience, but also a online mode which will extend the game play.

This game looks to be great for old school RPG fans who want a classic setting with a modern turn based battle system. The game is expected to be featured at E3, and released this Winter in thr West.

The Next Tony Hawk Game Has Been Revealed

Posted by PAYBACK-IRONMAN | Microsoft, Real Talk with the HipHopGamer, Sony | Friday 15 May 2009 2:47 pm

On yesterdays episode of GameTrailers Tv, we got a glimpse of “Tony Hawk Ride” and it looks like it can give the franchise the reboot that it needs. Judging from the gameplay in the trailer it looks like its going to be more realistic from previous entries and it looks  to compete against EA’s Skate franchise. Also another thing that looks interesting is the new motion-sensing skateboard peripheral; I’m not sure how you would do an ollie or a flip trick but it could make the game alot more funner and it can make the game seem more realistic than using an ordinary controller.

It’s going to be interesting to see how the new periphal works and hopefully it can get people interested in the Tony Hawk franchise again. Right now no release date has been revealed but I’m sure that we will be getting more info on the game when E3 hits in June. The game is set to release for the PS3, 360 and Wii.

Take-Two Sues Duke Nukem Forever Dev

Posted by bakerboy | Microsoft, Nintendo, Real Talk with the HipHopGamer, Sony | Friday 15 May 2009 1:58 pm

Conspiracy theorists maintain that 3D Realms’ closure last week was all part of some grand scheme to unveil a finished Duke Nukem Forever at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo. If that is the case, it would appear Duke Nukem Forever’s publisher has been caught up in the ruse, as Take-Two has filed suit against 3D Realms over the PC shooter.

Take-Two would prefer that you not see this.

According to the suit, 3D Realms–incorporated as Apogee Software Ltd.–failed to deliver on its contract to produce the game, instead shutting the project and the studio down on May 6. The suit also states that Take-Two paid 3D Realms $12 million in 2000 for publishing rights to the shooter, with a second, unspecified contract agreed upon in 2007. Development on Duke Nukem Forever began in 1997, the suit states.

“Apogee continually delayed the completion date for the Duke Nukem Forever,” Take-Two said in the complaint, according to a Bloomberg report. “Apogee repeatedly assured Take-Two and the video-gaming community that it was diligently working toward competing development of the PC version of the Duke Nukem Forever.”

Take-Two is also seeking to prevent 3D Realms from revealing any source code and assets related to the project. Many of those assets have already been leaked onto the Internet, however, as a number of former 3D Realms employees uploaded concept art and demo reels to their personal blogs and online portfolios following the studio’s closure. That content has since been removed from its original sources, but not before seeing mass proliferation across a variety of Web sites and message boards.

Take-Two declined to offer additional comment on the pending litigation.

The Next Gears Of War To Feature A Female Character

Posted by hiphopgamer | Microsoft, Real Talk with the HipHopGamer, Sony | Friday 15 May 2009 10:37 am

gears_09_cover_by_jim_lee

Intro:

Epic Games is getting prepared for a huge E3’09 showing this June and us gamers are pumped. The new Unreal Engine 3 Technology is going to be displayed across all platforms, and it’s very possible we may see a brand new IP coming from the brains behind Gears Of War and Unreal Tournament. Something is very strange though, take notice of the possible new character in the next iteration of Gears Of War which should work in conjunction with the new technology that is going to be displayed.

Point #1

Gears Of War is a great game but even great games need to be updated significantly, and the introduction of a female character will do just that. We all love Lara Croft and Joanna Dark but it’s time for a new bad ass chick to take the scene and Gears Of War 3 will be the perfect title for this to happen. Why? Because it will open up the market even more to female gamers showcasing that not only the men can be stars of big games and kick ass, also seeing a woman with a chainsaw gun will easily stand out over the competition and will potentially become a trend setter for more games in the future.

Point #2

Gameplay elements using a female character will change the entire feel of the series in which Epic Games are masters at enhancing gameplay. Looking at this picture you can see the beautiful hardcore red head with sex appeal on top of a dead brumack, this raises one question how did she kill this monster? So many questions so many things unanswered but everything will come to light at E3.

Closing

This seems to be Epic Games new change in direction for the Gears Of War series and considering the boss at the end of Gears Of War 2 is a woman wouldn’t be great to see this female character lead Marcus Phoenix to victory.
