Early last year Grand Theft Auto IV was released and although it was a great game many fans were left disappointed. Considering we’re in the next generation era, gamers everywhere expected more from the title and instead they felt ripped off. GTA: San Andreas had so much content inside it for a last generation game that consumers were left starving for more, and when they didn’t recieve it with GTA: IV the decision of Rockstar going multi-platform was questioned.
Point #1
All the hype surrounding Playstation 3 and the blu-ray space, along side the hard drive in every system one would guess that if the game was made exclusivley on Playstation 3 GTA:IV would’ve had a better turn out. According to Rockstar Games there’s some truth to that statement in the form of (LOOK BELOW)
Rockstar’s creative vice president Dan Houser was asked: “On PS3 you’ve got a guarantee that every machine is going to have a hard-drive and, with Blu-ray, you’ve got plenty of storage, whereas on Xbox 360 there’s no guarantee of a hard-drive and you’re working with the DVD format. Does that create limitations?” To which he replied, “Yep.”
Rockstar co-founder Sam Houser doesn’t know if the next Grand Theft Auto title after IV will properly fit onto the 360’s standard-sized discs.
So based on these factual statements that leads me to my next point which is Infamous.

Since day one Sony has shown that the real power of the Playstation 3 rests in it’s exclusives. Resistance, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, Ratchet, Killzone 2 and more has stunned the industry and provided a gap between the two rival platforms. Now entering into 2009 Sony continues to show and prove and Infamous looks to be the first open world exclusive title that everyone wants to see live up to the hype, and most of all will this game provide a glimpse of what GTA: IV should’ve been if it was made exclusively on Playstation 3.
So far from what the industry has seen the game looks amazing and with thousands of people roaming around, with a solid frame – rate, great story, and deep interaction with the enviornment, this might be a sign of what a open world game should and could play like exclusivley on Playstation 3. GTA: IV although it shares a completely different concept as far as game design you can’t escape the fact that in infamous you can literally climb up on any building , destroy any and everything on screen, get into large battles, and all this is shown in much more detail graphically than what GTA: IV offered. Sony needs a big answer at this years E3′09 and if rumors are true and they secure the next GTA exclusivley then that will be a even bigger blow to Microsoft than last year’s announcement of Final Fantasy 13 going multi-platform.

Infamous will be released very soon so the wait is almost over. Will this project turn heads and prove Sony loyalist that the next GTA should be exclusive? or has Microsoft got another ace up there sleeve to make sure GTA: V runs great on XBOX360 without any limitations.

LOL exactly what content are you talking about? Please break it down for me as to eactly what content. Did it take you 24 hours to beat it vs the average 8-12?
You said who cares about co-op? Obviously alot of people do which is why it was begged for and rumored on all over that it was going to be added as a DLC. Alot of games this gen include co-op so kind of makes you wonder why the most important game Sony had for an FPS didn’t include half the features you find in most FPS. Since the argument you are trying to make about space with BD solving all the issues yet it doesn’t come close to the amount of features even Halo 3(oooh that 600p resolution game that is still one of the top games played today on live)
The point is the average gamer doesn’t care or know that the game is 600p or 1080p. All they care about is playing a game that is fun at the end of the day. All those specs or how you put it SOOO MUCH CONTENT ON BD didnt make the game sale any better or even close to the top three lowest resolution games this gen. That being Halo 3, COD 4 and oh wait since memory serves me correct the game we are talking about which is GTA 4 that for the PS3 version was at a resolution at 630p while the 360 ran at 720p but at the end of the day it STILL sold. So that alone kind of proves how little this all means at the end of the day for gamers . So keep telling people GTA 4 could have been better being an exclusive when todays version was at 630p YET it still looked just as good on the PS3 as it did on the 360.
I am all for debating and conversation but please the fanboy angle that some of u try and claim needs to stop. I own a high end PC and three 360’s and an 80 gig PS3. Yep I prefer the 360 over the PS3 as buy all my multiplatform games on the 360 due to years of Live. I never see any negative or incorrect news on here about the PS3 though otherwise I will call out and say something about it to the article or any person that likes to spread false info.

mboojigga, Resistance 2 took up that much space cuz of all the content on the game, you obviously a 360 fanboy or just rather play 360 games over ps3 for some reason… idk. how many shooters you know has JUST AS MUCH CONTENT as R2? none. insomniac is one of the best studios out there…they deliver and keep promises and R2 is something that everyone should have, i still play it to this day. if you don’t know what it all has on it, look it up or pick it up.
killzone 2, who cares about co-op, i don’t see anything to great about it, i rather play alone or play multiplayer and kick people’s a$$.
MGS4, yea its cuz of the Cutscenes but thats what makes MGS series so great. imo…. in terms of quality, no game matches it, hands down. the story is one of the best, the soundtrack is ALWAYS great, its fun, graphics are always great, MGS series never disappoints.
as for GTA4, it could have better better in numerous ways, for BD… they can hold more content on the disc so they wont be limited to how much they put into on detail and audio and the size of the game in a whole. and the HDD… EVERY ps3 has one, 360 don’t. HDD will help reduce downloads and possibly lag. since 360 use only dvd… they were limited cuz they filled the dvd up to the brim, they could have added MUCH more if they wanted to.
i agree with killa indian GTAIV is unmatched in realism and fun factor but i think infamous has a chance look what they fulled off with uncharted better graphics than any other xbox 360 gears of war 2 cant match them graphics. But i think it was defo held back because you can only compress to a certain limit then no more, if it was on ps3 only the storyline would be bigger the maps wuold be bigger. i read it somewhere rockstar said it them selfs GTAIV was held back due to space limitions of the xbox 360
Hey man I think people forget that the real big reason why GTA IV is so amazing is because of the Euphoria Engine. There game engine in general is amazing. inFamous doesn’t use the Euphoria Engine. Another thing, MattG, GTA is amazing cause of the things I mentioned. The tiny details are different. Who is to say inFamous won’t have all of the tiny things. I think inFamous has a shot in terms of story, but when down to the pure fun factor and realism, GTA IV is unmatched. That is until the next open world that comes out, that uses Euphoria.
inFAMOUS can only hope to be half as good as the brilliance known as GTAIV. Also I’d like to add that the power in GTA IV has not been matched this generation. Call me crazy, but when you consider the size of the three boroughs in GTA IV and the amount of detail put into the tiniest things I think it is more impressive than a linear game like a Killzone 2.
The amount of detail given to the most meaningless things is great. The weather, the pedestrian conversations, the physics engine, the lighting, etc. The fact the TV worked and the radio was great just adds even more enjoyment to the game.
In my opinion GTA IV is the pinnacle of open world games at the moment, because they create a “world like” experience.
Now other people may like the gameplay in a Saint’s Row or San Andreas, but give me the expierence and story telling in GTA IV any day of the week. The character development, music, graphics, details, and overall value is amazing.
Also I played the inFAMOUS demo and it plays great. I’m just not ready to give an all time great game, GTA IV, the cold shoulder.

This is a complete turnaround for me as it was a very enjoyable read. HH great job man! You delivered your facts and points across well. I’ve always felt you should save professionalism for the articles and get real in your show. I’m looking forward to your next article like this now even more.
No Infamous is not going to prove GTA was held back. I really don’t get the conspiracy theories for GTA. It was released on both consoles. They made a story and developed what they wanted to develop. Rather than simply claiming just becuase it is Blu-Ray and that it would have been a bigger game simply becuase of how much the BR disc holds(which is not correct) what the hell do you expect for them to put in. What would have been different if GTA IV was only on the PS3? Exactly what would we have seen? Resistance was an exclusive and lasted just as long as most FPS games last. Yet bragged to be 24 gigs. MGS4 was a 50 gig game which was mostly because of the cutscenes since the majority of it was sitting down and watching the game rather then playing. Heavonly Sword, just as short as most of the hack n slashes. Infamous is estimated to last 12 hours. Resistance 2 added 20 more people to play online. Killzone 2 how many hours does the game last. No co-op for that game but it is BR how come? Your article leaves alot of questions as to how your coming to this conclusion that some how Infamous is supposed to be that next great exclusive that is supposed to tell Dan Houser and folks that they need to be exclusive to the PS3. There are more factors you seem to ignore than just the fact that it is dvd that is a limitation. Install base, economy taking a chance for it to sell as much as if it was multiplatform. You really expect these companies to make a decisions based on the size of a disc is what all you are trying to tell us.
Money rules the world nowadays, its more likely microsoft will retain GTA:V as a multi-platform title and come up with new and better compression software, innovation will always be riding shotgun, great article HHG, closing was the only think i could think about after reading
