Fight Night 4 Controls Are Getting Updated Says EA

Posted by hiphopgamer | Microsoft, Real Talk with the HipHopGamer, Sony | Saturday 16 May 2009 9:10 pm

Intro:

After I got my hands on the Fight Night 4 Demo I was amazed. The game is incredible in every way Graphics, Sound, Fun Factor, and Gameplay but, there is a major negative to the gameplay situation. Similar to Factor 5’s game LAIR that debuted on the Playstation 3 it was released only using motion controls which put a major damper on the success of the game and sadly EA Sports Fight Night 4 according to the demo was about to share that same fate until.

Point #1

I did some research on the fans of this game and the majority ruled in favor of having the option to use Face Buttons just like in Fight Night Round 3 for your punches instead of being limited to the Total Control Analog Punch gameplay style. Well I’ve contacted EA regarding this matter and it was remarkable how they responded. Here’s a quote from one of the employees that’s behind the production of this game.
“Thanks for this, man. Appreciate honest feedback.

The team is aware of the concerns, and though we can’t make any
official comment on the button issue, rest assured it is being
addressed.

The good thing about our current gaming landscape is the ability to
patch a game on day one.

I will keep you posted. Thanks again for reaching out.”

That right there sealed the deal and also shows how powerful us gamers are in this industry and how dedicated EA is as a company for there fan base to remain happy.

Closing

Every company in this industry needs to learn from Factor 5’s mistake and that is “never take away options that gamers want to justify what you think is correct as a developer” – Gerard (HipHopGamer) Williams.
Surely in the end you have to cater to the gamers and options will always save the day for a developer’s success.

face button controls are for noobs with no skills… why not let people control their characters with the d-pad in first person shooters too.. The face button control scheme takes away from the sim feeling of the game. If people want this type of control then they should go play street fighter or somethin

bakerboy, you’re right! I hate when gamers take the easy way out, like those who tried to make killzone 2 feel like call of duty with the L1 zoom. Those who change the controls of SFIV. Those who turn up the speed on NBA 2K9.
    DEFAULT SETTINGS PEOPLE!!!

    @ bakerboy and southside
controls are a matter of preference,i know people who play fps games with invert enabled which i could never get used to,but if they took this option away it would make the game virtually inaccessible to certain people.fight night has always had the option to change the controls so to take this away now would just be suicide.

WOW….U guys I don’t understand whats the problem if ur satisfied with one way of playing!”We” are not the “same”….”U” play the way “U” want, “We”(I) play the way “we”(I) want….
What is the problem….How is a button masher a noob?

    1)TPC VS Face BUTTONS

    A)A punch is a punch….If u hit a button or flick a joystick
The main issue I see with the joystick users is….
The Button mashers beat them to the punch & they land what punch they wanted to land….
    Like I always tell people….BLOCK!

    Again….To all u TPC Users….

There are 2 types of Button Mashers….
1)Button Mashers-People Playing for fun that are just punching for no reason!

2)Tactical Button Mashers-That Knows When And What Punch they Want To Throw At that Moment

    TPC/VS/Button Mashing….Same Action/Same Animation….
So whats this big problem about leaving the option to choose how “We” want to execute the Action/Animation in?

    EA….U say ur giving us”

    TOTAL PUNCH CONTROL”….

    How bout

    “TOTAL PLAY CONTROL”

“Ohhh Noooo”Look at the Noob Button mashes Crying about the Buttons!

The thing people are crying about is….
1.They just like “U”(TPC Users) those people have been waiting for this Game for years to come out….(All This new Stuff Added in the game &
Then they take something away from them that would make the game “GREAT FOR “THEM” Not “U”

2.Mabe they would have put the Buttons back in for “them” if people like “U”(No offense) would let the people speak with out someone that plays the game a hole nother way Saying….

“SUCK IT UP & LEARN THE TPC EVEN IF IT”S A LITTLE SLOWER OR IT”S BROKEN /Ur NOOBS” “Buy Another Game Then”

Why? When We all can have Fun….

Some people did try to use TPC….even “I”

Face it….Some people just ain’t good at it….
Just like singers & producers….Some people just ain’t good at it

Why force them to sing if all they want to do is keep they day job….It’s Working for “Them”

Ever thought it might not be the people….It might be the TPC it self!

My opinion….If the Buttons are More Accurate & has faster responses than the TPC….
Then I think we are all fusing about the wrong thing and what needs to be added and taking out when the obvious is the obvious!

    I say….Leave ‘em both in

To me that is Truly TOTAL PUNCH CONTROL
    (BOTH)
    ONLINE IS ONE THING….
But @ Home in ur “own” boxing fantasy mind frame mode….Is another!

Some People just want to play the game the way “they” Not “U” feel comfortable!(LEGACY MODE)

I love a challenge, but I really love to know I did all I could do to win a fight!

TPC/Or/Buttons….Ether Way It Goes….The Computer Will Know What It Want ’s To Throw When It Wants To Throw It & Trust me on a Hard Set Level….Some People will get ate alive because of the Error’s They Make!

That right there will Kill the games Reply Value for me!

I just want to Live my Life as a Boxer in Legacy Mode & be come the greatest knowing I fought to the best of my ability’s….that can’t happen for some people if they feel they are handicap!
    P.S….
    I Saw The Controller Configuration:
    The D-PAD…Has a N/A!
    Face Buttons Are….(Y)Clinch(X)Push(A)Signature Punch(B)Illegal Blow

Now Come On EA….That could have been Used for the D-PAD…..
I bet they are going to use the D-Pad for something like Taunts!(NOOOOO)

They could have made every one happy if they could have Put the punches on the face buttons….
    Whats so hard about….
    (Y)Right Straight(X)Left Straight(A)Left Hook(B)Right Hook

@ Bakerboy – Considering your a staff on HHGS.com wouldnt it be nice if you had a bit more sense, common sense is not so common after all. .

Not every STICK user is an expert at using sticks
Not every button user is an expert at using Buttons

anyone can be dumb like you and claim that buttons users are noobs
the same can be said about an analouge user, most of the time they do things they dont intend to do (Flick the stick till the move you want appears on screen?)

What does your controls have to do with skill .. if your aim is to take out the opponent not the configuration they are using .. since button users have no skill, shouldnt taking them out be a piece of cake? ..

    Yo Gerard!!

Can we get an update to this? I’ve been reading the EASport Fight Night forums and the mod named sk88t or something like that said that this isn’t true. He didn’t provide a statement or anything, he just said that he talked to them on Friday and they said that there are not going to be any control updates. So is there anything more on this?

I use config 3 in Round 3 and I use it well, I know what I’m throwing and when it’s going to land and can put together pretty efficient combos mixed with defense tactics with a decent average of successful outcomes. From my experience with TCP it’s far less accurate in every way, it’s so inaccurate that being a skilled player actually makes using it more frustrating, and ultimately makes the gameplay feel unnatural. I also feel that TCP caters to “button mashing” more than using button because of the speed that you can throw multiple punches even though you have no idea what your throwing just by spinning the stick around. I have a feeling that a skilled Fight Night player using config 3 would win consistently against someone who thought they were skilled using TCP. If anyone would like to prove my theory, my gamertag is – FrameCityKiller.

who are they, and who are you to choose for ME whether i should use TPC or button control. Im the one whos gonna buy my copy of the game so i should choose which way i want to play it. For those of you who dont like button users i wipe my ass with your opinion. It’s your way or the highway? Fuck you. You are as open-minded as my ass. I play with the buttons configuration and i ALSO use all the strategies that are at my disposition to win a match. whether you choose button control or TPC, if all you do is swing like a mad man without blocking or anything you’ll never win a single match unless you play against your dog.

i’ve purchased the game knowing that i wouldn’t be able to play it because all i’ve ever played with are the face buttons, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t a great game. all it takes is a little patience and practice. i just wish i had the option to choose my configuration.

Well done EA – if you wanna button crunch fuck off back to street fighter. I’m loving FN4. The button crunchers seem to be those that know fuckall about boxing. The game is great for boxing fans. As for you button crunchers watch a real boxing match or two and learn a little more about the craft. Once again well done EA. The boxing fans appreciate the game bigtime.
