Is Uncharted On The Same Level As Metal Gear and God of War?

When it comes to game consoles, it doesn’t matter how much power the system has under the hood or the entertainment features available to it. What matters is the games and most importantly the flagship games. For years, the two most important games to Sony was Metal Gear Solid and God of War, but is there now a third coming to join the two legendary franchises?
Uncharted was released in late 2007, and was considered by many to be the first great exclusive for the Playstation 3. It was not only one of the most beautiful games of it’s time, but also a high quality product. The game brought back the Indiana Jones/Tomb Raider type games, but took it to another level. The series protagonist, Nathan Drake, became a lovable hero with a personality that the players could connect to. The team at Naughty Dog also did something that game developers have bee lacking on lately, and that is making diverse environments with lots of color. Today there are too many games stuck in grey and drab environments.
The first game was a success, but in December 2008 Naughty Dog revealed the future of the franchise and blew people away with the possibilities. A game rarely becomes a Mario to Nintendo or a Halo to Microsoft in one game, but rather it takes a few to get the ball rolling. While Uncharted was a great first entry it was no where near the level of MGS and GOW. Now though with all the info coming out about the sequel, Uncharted 2, look for Nathan Drake to be placed on the same pedestal that is currently housing Kratos and Solid Snake.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves has only had a limited amount of footage shown, but what has been seen looks incredible. This game is surprising people by being able to look better than the first game which is no small task. This game looks to not only surpass the first game, but quite possibly be the most impressive game visually on consoles, period. Naughty Dog has seemed to improve both the hand to hand combat, and the aiming system in the game. The transition between cut scene and game play is unnoticeable, and the game looks to be one of the best coming this Fall.
A flagship game pushes the console in both quality power wise and quality fun wise. The Uncharted series seems to be doing both, and seems to be creating a series that can go on for years to come like a Mario or Zelda. While games like Metal Gear have to have their story come to an end eventually, in a game like Uncharted the developers can continue to find old mysteries for Drake to solve. They are giving the player a high quality experience that can’t be experienced anywhere else, and look to be pushing the console to a new limit. Obviously Sony considers this game as important as the other two franchises, but should the fans? After seeing what Naughty Dog has planned in the sequel, the answer has to be yes.
