The One Thing Missing From The PSN

When the PSN was launched with the release of the PS3, many considered it a redheaded stepchild to Xbox Live. Many thought Xbox Live to be light years better than the PSN. Fortunately for PS3 owners, the service continued to improve at such an astonishing rate that it is now near the value of the Xbox Live. While this is great there are still some things the PSN is missing that would be a great bonus to the service and the store is the inclusion of PS2 Classics.

The Xbox currently has Xbox Originals which has a solid library of the first Xbox games including Halo: CE, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, both Max Payne’s, and many more. Now those are just 5 of the couple dozen great last gen games that Xbox Live has. When you look at the PS2’s library, think of the amount of quality titles that could be available on the Playstation Store.

While this may not be a must for those who own a backwards compatible PS3, or still own their PS2 this would be a great addition to the Playstation Store for the 10+ million PS3 owners who either have a limited backwards catalog or no backwards compatibility whatsoever. Their first party titles from last gen would be a great start with games like the God of War series, Shadow of The Colussus, Ico, SOCOM, Gran Turismo, and Killzone 1. Then other companies like Konami and Square Enix would also approve of a service like this to make money off of franchises like Metal Gear and Final Fantasy.

Sony has shown their support for putting their back catalog on the PSN with PSOne classics, but is that enough? Hopefully this E3 or in the near future they will allow PS3 owners the ability to play some of the reat games on their last console. With no backwards compatabilty on any of the current models it would be an ideal way for a gamer to enjoy a great game on a budget.

I got backwards compatibility on my 60Gig and I only put 1 ps2 game in my system (25 to Life). I think they will add plenty more features before they think about ps2 titles in the playstation store.
Although, I know i would buy GTA Vice City if that was on there. Maybe San Andreas too.

Althoiugh I do agree that having PS2 titles as downloadable games will be a great and a very appreciated feture to add to the PSN, I alos know that PS2 itself,(the console) is still continuing to sell like hot cakes. My theory is that downloadable PS2 games will come, but only when the PS2 console begins to dwindle. It is also my belief that the PS2 will dwindle when PS3 drops it’s price. If Sony were reading my comment right now, I’d want them to know that maybe if they decide to drop the price and add PS2 emulation, that’ll probably boost sales sky high! But knowing them, they already know that and are planning it. I mean, it’s business, why cut out the console when we can still make money off of it? – PSN: LeoDaLyon

Quit bitching lol…just kidding. I have the new 80GB and I hate that I can’t play my old PS2 games. Sony needs to make an emulator and just hand it out to everyone, and let us play our games. Maybe we can buy PS2 games for like 5 dollars or something. I would prefer that then no PS2 games at all. Ohh well…….that is sony for ya.

Dude you know this my number 1 bitch topic when we talk games. Well, this and Square Enix’s f**king retardedness when it comes to releasing FF13..

Wait until E3, this question is coming up if I get my hands on a PS3 head honcho

PSN continues to play catch up to Live and knowing MS they will launch a slew of new features that will be coming to Live again. It boggles my mind about anyone talking about backwards compatibility when the system bragged so much about having the feature only to cut it out for cost saving. Now everyone wants an emulator(which adds cost to the system)
Majority of PS3 owners are not concerned about this really. It is why the PS2 is $99 now and obviously Sony has no plans to stop selling the system with new games coming to it. Is Sony going to sale more systems due to backwards compatibility when they took it out in the first place to save moeny? If they do t hen why would we expect a price drop?(I don’t expect the price drop at E3 due to the fact that they have said they are focused on profit and don’t see how they can do that wanting to add BC. Doesn’t add up.
