Why 2009 Will Be The Year Of The Xbox 360 (Chapter Five: The Paradigm)
As we continue our journey, our next chapter will reveal a new reason known as the Paradigm. Throughout the remaining months of 2009, and starting at E3, we will begin to see Microsoft’s vision for the future unfold before our very eyes.
To clarify, Microsoft is beginning to create a paradigm shift in the Land of the Rising Sun. More importantly, they will maintain their lead in the online service marathon by creating an even greater shift in the way gamers perceive Xbox Live.
Before we begin this chapter, I must urge you to read the previous articles if you have not done so already. My reason for insisting is that we are on a journey to reach a certain outcome. If you choose not to read the previous articles, you will not have a solid foundation for the main concept that will be presented later on. As a result, neither will you be able to comprehend all the important aspects of this argument, nor will you enjoy this experience at the level you truly deserve. Therefore, I will provide you with the proper tools to journey back in time, if you ever choose to do so; the links to the past are as follow:

(Chapter Two: The MMO): http://www.hiphopgamershow.com/?p=9583
(Chapter Three: The Newcomer): http://www.hiphopgamershow.com/?p=9642
(Chapter Four: The Ally): http://www.hiphopgamershow.com/?p=9734
Back to the topic at hand, let us begin the next chapter, in our journey, that will reveal to you yet another reason for Microsoft’s domination in 2009.
15 ) Japan:
According to Enterbrain, the Japanese magazine publisher, the Xbox 360 console has passed the one million mark in Japan, in March of 2009! That is quite an accomplishment for Microsoft in the Land of the Rising Sun. In fact, it actually proves that there is absolutely nothing beyond Microsoft’s reach. Make no mistake, this is a milestone to be cemented in the books of history.
Now that they have achieved the unimaginable, Microsoft will continue to gain momentum in Japan by providing gamers with more of what they want. According to Kotaku, on the 20th of April 2009, Microsoft held its spring 2009 press conference, during which Takashi Sensui, General Manager of Xbox Division in Japan, confirmed that a million Xbox 360 consoles have been sold nationwide, and as a token of appreciation to the Japanese gaming community, a million Microsoft Points will be given away. He then went on to announce 31 titles for Japan including 15 XBLA titles.
The most interesting aspects of the conference were the following: showing the first ever live-demo of Bayonetta, which blew everyone away, revealing new gameplay footage of previously announced titles including Dead Rising 2 and End of Eternity, announcing that Samurai Spirits Shin will be a 2009 Xbox 360 exclusive, and confirming that the Xbox Live Community Games will kick off in Japan, in July of 2009. More importantly, gamers need to realize that most of the games announced at the conference will be released in 2009, and that they might be exclusive to the Xbox 360 in some way. Additionally, showing multiplatform titles on the Xbox 360, exclusively, will psychologically condition gamers to view these titles as actual exclusives for Microsoft’s console despite the fact that they aren’t.
Regardless, this conference, along with the announcements that took place in it, is a clear example of the level of commitment and dedication that Microsoft has towards establishing a strong foothold in the land of the Japanese Empire. With popular Japanese developers strongly supporting Microsoft’s machine, there is absolutely no way of decreasing their momentum in Japan, and 2009 will only be the beginning.
16 ) Xbox Live Services:

Microsoft is hard at work on enhancing the Xbox Live services by providing gamers with a richer online experience in every way possible.
First, they internally created a development studio in 2008, in order to create high quality digital content for Xbox Live; they called it Xbox LIVE Productions (XBLP). In January of 2008, Microsoft began hiring for Xbox Live Digitally Distributed Games (DDG) team, described as “a newly formed organization focused on digital distribution of games via Xbox Live Marketplace”. Marc Whitten, General Manager of Xbox Live, officially announced the studio in May of 2008. The first title that was released by this studio was Fable II Pub Games. The second is a South Park title that is currently in development by Doublesix games and will be published by XBLP in 2009. Moreover, XBLP will also produce exclusive video content for Xbox Live.
Second, they are currently in the process of finalizing Primetime. According to Edge, “1 vs. 100” will be a dynamic and interactive game that lets the LIVE community play along in front of an audience of thousands and an actual host for a chance to win real prizes. Primetime will combine a TV gameshow-like experience with the interactivity of games across Xbox Live. The TV show 1 vs. 100 is to be the first gameshow to be adapted for Primetime, with scheduled events bringing connected gamers together in one virtual place.
In fact, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Microsoft said that it has lined up the support of such major advertisers as Honda and Sprint for the show. Despite not revealing an exact launch date, they did estimate that “1 vs. 100” will begin sometime in the next four weeks. More importantly, players can win up to 10,000 Microsoft points, which can be redeemed for games, movies and episodic TV show downloads as well as other content.
To make things even more interesting, the “1 vs 100” public beta was launched on the 8th of May 2009, and will be running until the 24th of May exclusively in Canada. With the early impressions being mostly positive, we can expect Primetime to be a major success for Microsoft this year.
Third, according to several sources, they are currently working on the next major update that will take Xbox Live to a whole new level by further improving the accessibility, revamping the interface, and adding more community features. In fact, a web browser is rumored to be included in the update.
Fourth, they will further evolve the Avatar System with user-generated content. In several interviews, the developers at Rare have expressed their excitement towards the future possibilities surrounding the Avatars and the growing interest that third party publishers have for them. In an interview with VG247 in early 2009, Rare mentioned that the Xbox community may receive features allowing them to create their own Avatar kit. “User-generated content is a huge area that would not have been done any justice if we had tried to cram it into the launch release of this project,” said Avatars Designer, Dale Murchie. He also went on to say: “There may be features coming that open up the expressive potential of the Xbox community, but we’re keeping quiet on that for now”. Head of Art Lee Musgrave added: “Creativity is going to play a big part in the development of the Avatars”. Thus, it would be quite accurate to state that the introduction of the Avatar system is only the beginning.
Lastly, they are continuing to expand the Xbox Live Arcade library. The year started with The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai that took everyone by surprise; if this title is any indication for what is yet to come from XNA Game Studio, expect the next wave of XNA-based games to blow you away. Following the release of The Dishwasher, Microsoft kept releasing AAA titles including Lode Runner and Banjo-Tooie. Interestingly enough, according to several sources, Rare is currently working on a Lunar Jetman remake. In fact, you can also expect a few beasts to be unleashed by Rare, this year, including Battletoads, Jet Force Gemini, Killer Instinct, and the original Perfect Dark!
In summary, by providing community games like 1 vs. 100, creating another major New Xbox Experience update, evolving the Avatar system, and releasing AAA Xbox Live Arcade Games, for yet another year, Microsoft is well on its way to cementing its console domination in the online arena.
As this chapter comes to a close, we finally arrive at the village that is known to be the home of our next chapter. According to the ancient ruins, surrounding the village, this chapter only exists because the tribe that resides in the village allows it to. They have a dark mystical ability that grants its owner the power to control the human mind. That tribe is known as…………The Following.

To all the readers, I thank you in advance for reading this article. I would like to present to you some of the Bits Of Information (BOI) that I was not able to include in this article. They are as follow:
BOI 1 ) Capcom: according to them, the name “CAPCOM” is an abbreviation of CAPsule COMputer. This was a phrase symbolic of a company objective to create a new gaming experience that would exceed that of rival personal computers which had also been increasing in popularity during the same period.
BOI 2 ) Capcom: the company released Vulgus, their first arcade game, in 1984. It was a vertically scrolling shooter.
BOI 3 ) Namco: is an amusement company based in Japan, best known overseas for video games development.
I hope everyone enjoyed the Information provided

I have to disagree with the Japan part, I like your articles very detailed but I doubt Japan will help in any form of success with the 360. Yes the 360 has been gaining momentum in Japan but take note it was because of Square Enix and Namco Bandai games but with the recent fiasco of the Tales of Vesperia incident many Japanese gamers have grown more unwilling to purchase a 360 more than ever the fact that Tales of Vesperia was said to be 360 exclusive people in Japan decided to go buy a 360 only to be told that a PS3 version will come eventually with new attacks a new character and full voice overs. Japan is a very xenophobic country and with the ToV incident I doubt Japan is that willing to trust what Microsoft dubs as exclusive anymore they will wait for a PS3 version with or without confirmation, it’s just how Japan apparently is.
Ahh… How I wish I was able to comment on all your other similarly well written articles I have arguments for each of them to go along with some of what I agree with.
-Peace-
Your a very good writer this article is well written and thought out. Kudos to you Sir. E3 will be amazing this year. Question, do you think Modern Warfare 2 will have any chance of being a timed exclusive for the Xbox 360?

All I can say is this: My last chapter which will be posted next Saturday will blow your mind!
@ Deep Obsidian
Please do comment on my other articles. I regularly check them all. Since I am busy finishing up the remaining articles, I will reply to most comments once my last chapter is posted. As for Japan, even if a title was announced from the start as a timed exclusive, Japanese gamers will not wait for the PS3 version; for example, if Star Ocean 4 was announced to be a timed-exclusive title for the Xbox 360, and the PS3 version was announced to be arriving after one year, do you honestly believe that gamers in Japan would actually wait for the PS3 version while the Xbox 360 version is in stores?!
Japan is a long-term investment for Microsoft, not a short one. They are slowly building their name there. Eventually they will get there.

Actually yes I believe Japan will wait must I remind you that the Japanese are a xenophobic bunch a poll was conducted about “if Japanese gamers will or have bought an Xbox 360. Minority of them said they bought a 360, majority of them said they didn’t roughly 20% said it was because of hardware issues, 25% said they are willing to wait if a PS3 version is in the works anyway, 5% said that the games on the 360 don’t interest them (I find that hard to believe btw). What happened to the rest of the 50% those were people who said they did not buy the 360 and won’t buy it for “undisclosed reasons”, believe it or not it is most likely because the Xbox 360 is an “American” made console Japan is simply xenophobic the only reason people bought the 360 there is mostly from the Tales of Vesperia and Star Ocean is exclusive to the 360, both games were released before the controversial “Tales of Vesperia for PS3 with more content” issue. It may seem like long term for Microsoft, but “how” they reach their fanbase is under question becuase they were apparently lied to in terms of “exclusives”.
How many Japanese gamers do you think will buy the 360 version of a game if an inevitable PS3 version will come, Why would Japan trust a company that lies to them (many Japanese gamers deeply research on American products before even thinking of buying them), Why would most of the Japanese support an American made console instead of a Japanese made console. My argument is mainly focused on where you view it from, the way you view it you view it from an open minded perspective, I say view it from a Xenophobic perspective then you will understand why I believe that the Japanese are willing to wait for a PS3 version of any game before even thinking of purchasing a 360 version.
