Breaking News: Warner Bros. Win Bid For Midway
Well ladies and gentleman it looks like Mortal Kombat has a new home. The Mortal Kombat, Joust and Spy Hunter franchises are now the property of Warner Bros. According to the LA Times, “The deadline for submitting bids to buy Midway Games passed Wednesday afternoon with just one offer — a $33-million deal from Warner Bros. to purchase most of the bankrupt Chicago company’s assets”.
However the offer doesn’t include all of Midway’s assets. “It remains unclear what will happen to the company’s studio in Newcastle, U.K., which makes the Wheelman games, and its studio in San Diego, which is developing a wrestling game based on a license with TNA Entertainment. Those assets could potentially be sold to another buyer”.
This is great news I can’t wait to see a true next-generation Mortal Kombat game built from the ground up for the 360 and PS3. Hopefully they will bring back the Suffering series as well. I’m not too excited about that This is Vegas game, they can cancel it as far as I care, but this is a great opportunity for Midway to introduce freshly new IPs, like that Necessary Force game.
