Confirmed: Blu-Ray Still The Place For Full 1080p HD Not Microsoft

NEWS:

Microsoft had a killer conference at E3’09 this year and everyone jaws were dropped. The Metal Gear Rising Announcement, Project Natal, and also Instant 1080p HD Movie Streaming were all pleasant surprises. One of these announcements may not fully be accurate and that’s the 1080p streaming.

According to Microsoft being able to stream 1080p HD will not be a mass market feature for quite sometime simply because of the broadband connection power you will need to stream it, where as on Playstation 3 you buy a Blu-Ray accompanied with a 1080p TV and boom your done, sounds like a better consumer way to experience the best quality in HD.

Now in order to even stream 1080p consistently you will need a 8 mega bit internet connection but the average connection in the US alone is only 4 mega bites which is half that, meaning this feature is although a great step forward is really in it’s infancy. Now according too Microsoft when these movies start, it won’t be at top quality simply because of bit rate issues but through out the movie the quality will slowly increase, which is still no match for the consistent beautiful Blu-Ray quality.

There’s so much more to this feature that needs to be worked on and until households are fully able to utilize this, Blu-Ray is definitely the way too go because you can watch true 1080p quality from start to finish and also you don’t need a internet connection at all to do it.

Blu-Ray wins the mass market.

    8mb/s????crazy, wasn’t onlive’s required amount 4-5mb/s???, but then again, people can wait while the video is loading can’t they?

    Very beautifully put! When you buy a digital movie… it has no value. When you buy a blu-ray disc you get property/value.

    How is it confirmed? Let’s wait until the technology is released and how it works before we confirm things lol

    Damn Matt is really hoping for this thing to be perfect. It will be great but yea, streaming 1080p requires a good internet connection. 8 MBps is a lot. I only have 6mbps. Who know, but I want to wait and see the quality of the service before jumping to conclusions. Hopefully the 1080p will be as good as blu ray. If it is, then I will be surprised. Streaming and having a disc are two separate things. I hope it works out. It will be a much cheaper alternative (if you have 8mbps) than buying a blu ray player.

    I have a up to 11mb Cox Cable connection. I currently get 10.1mb/s, Comcast and Cox have both upgraded speed in my area. This happened last year sometime. While I agree I’m not everyone but realize most of these numbers were take a while back and the situation is changing. Plus let’s see the technology before we start condemning it.

    While the tech is impressive, I personally prefer physical media, besides what about the bandwitdth caps that the service providers use. While Comcast is generous with their usage limit (at, I think 250 gigs/mo.) most are set much much lower. Tiered options or not, it still sucks for digitally distributed content (HD movies I’m lookin’ at you).

    @Killa-Indian:

    I’m not hoping for anything. I’m just not ready to say that it is confirmed that Blu-Ray is superior before any consumer has gotten their hands on this service. We don’t know how this technology will work until we get it into our homes. Until then I’m not ready to confirm anything.

    It doesnt affect me either way because I own both consoles

    please for goodness sake stop comparing Blu-Ray to other trash medias:/

    Ever since I heard of Blu-Ray, I knew it was going to be successful, and then I heard of Microsoft’s HDD-DvD. I instantly knew it will fail, because of less supporters. And they did!

    Streaming 1080p movies instantly STILL doesn’t compare to Blu-Ray.

    *Blu-Ray you get to keep the disc n case (for people who love building up collection)
    *Contains extras and features (I want more out of a movie rather than watching it and boom done…ending…credits…jizz)
    *Blu-Ray Live (enough said)
    *Interact Menu
    *Blu-ray special feature

    @ICUKILLA

    Some of us want to but they don’t offer faster online in every area. I still can’t get vios nor optimum online or whatever they’re called.
