Sony Playstation 3 is the console that everyone wants to target why? because when your brand has been in the #1 Spot for so long it comes with the territory. 2006 the launch of Sony Playstation 3 did not turn out very successful considering it was not a worldwide launch, and shipments weren’t met, and the price was no where near a mass market price. Since the beginning they had struggles big time but that’s what makes a great company and that’s surviving the struggle and positioning to be on top once again and 2010 is the year for the positioning to come to light.

Recently new info has been announced regarding Sony’s business and the cost of manufacturing Sony’s Playstation 3 has been cut significantly by roughly 70 percent SOURCE this is a major accomplishment considering the 10 year life cycle Sony is banking on with this new achievement things from hear on out will be different.

Success of the Playstation 1 was due to having a better development environment over the sega saturn, and when games such as Final Fantasy 7 hit the Playstation 1 not even nintendo 64 could compete with the Playstation and it’s exclusives along with third party support. Success of the Playstation 2 was due to the success of Playstation 1 plus games like Grand Theft Auto being exclusive, Strong Marketing, Backwards Capability and the infamous DVD player.

Success of the Playstation 3 how will it happen? considering now there’s serious competition and the brand name of Playstation alone won’t win this console war other moves need to be made. Xbox360 has the Online market, the price point, third party support along with great exclusives, and most of all a strong brand name in the overall game industry.

Playstation 3 this generation has shown something that we haven’t seen from Sony and that’s being able to survive major media bashing, selling million of consoles at a 600 dollar price tag, winning the Hi – Def medium war. The next move is too become a profit machine and when this next price drop hits the market along with the enhanced features the Playstation 3 has too offer, another 360 will be discussed and that will be the turnaround that Sony will make come 2010.

“The cost reduction since we introduced the PS3 is very substantial and this is on schedule,” said the exec when questioned on the console’s manufacturing figures. “We don’t disclose how much of the PlayStation 3, specifically the cost deduction, was achieved during the past two years. But that is on schedule.”

A further 70 per cent drop on this figure would suggest costs now sit at around USD 240 (GBP 146) per unit. A figure which could indicate room for the widely rumoured price cut due later this year.
