Your assuming a game like 8 days which was a new IP and the Getaway which wasn’t that popular on the PS2 to begin with had the potential to sale 8m like GTAIV which was multiplatform(not 8mil on the PS3 by itself)
The exclusives on the PS3 have yet to sale 8mil alone. Their are other games that are sandbox games that don’t come close to selling like GTAIV or previous versions before it. Prototype and Infamous say hello and we tried.

Hopefully they were just “shelved to a later date.” I don’t know about the Getaway, but I remember 8 days looked really nice. Also, if those cancellations were because of Eyepet…..I don’t know about that as a gamble. Assuming all things were equal with regards to dev costs, I can’t imagine that EyePet would generate more revenue than those other two games. We’ll see though, it’s all about the casual gamers, and hell it may be cute enough to buy for my kids.

The type of deal I described would absolutely need to extend to more than just Gamestop. Wal-mart, Bestbuy, Amazon, pretty much any legit retail enterprise would need to be included. Would people move to ebay? Maybe, but sales on ebay would not be near as much as at a Gamestop because there is a loss in the ease of the transaction, so the damage to the game industry would be lessened. Also, I’m not necessarily sure that Bungie and Rockstar don’t make noise about the whole used game sales issue. They sell a large amount of games, but they are still affected by potential sales that are lost as the result of a used game sale.
Your comments regarding DLC are why I generally have no problems with it. I know some folks get angry about the costs and such, but this is a way for the devs to recoup some dev dollars that the used game market can’t touch. The same is true of the upcoming digital distribution models the 360 and PSP are looking to apply. I do have my problems with that though. I find it confusing that they still intend to charge full retail price when I don’t get any of the following: case, disc, manual…..anything physical. Games released via digital distribution have no business selling at full retail price.

video games especially AAA games for next gen systems cost allot of money, so the more money the devs make the more AAA games we get.

I’m not going to waste time on the article bit again or any of this meaningless back and forth. The only thing i’ll point out is that this is a “hip hop” gamer site where one would assume slang would be prominent or at the very least acceptable.

That’s sounds like a good idea but like you and many others have said, Gamestop makes most of their money off of used games. Developers would have to strike that deal with other huge online and retail stores. Otherwise what you’d probably have is a growth of folks selling through amazon or Ebay and or you’d have Amazon and Toys ‘R’ Us stepping in. In fact they already have. Also with the weeks or months gap by then the hype for the game may have died down tremendously. By then Amazon could be selling Brand New copies on sale at $40 or even $30 which they usually do.
There’s also the point about bad games (or mostly games the masses decided are bad). I don’t know if you’ll really here these cries from the Bungie’s or Rockstar’s. I assume If anything they’ll go along to put on the appearance of solidarity. I think it’ll be (had to check the exact names) the AMM’s (WET), Blue Omega’s (Damnation) and the Tigon’s (Wheelman) (that make mediocre games) leading the way. I suspect a push from publishers too who may have some big games but also put out ones that just don’t sell like Afro Samurai (Namco) and NPPL 2009 (Activision) or even the lower end guys like Southpeak.
Even if they make a great game there’s no assurance that it’ll resonate with the majority of gamers. They are just going to have to hope for success. It seems like they are trying to find themselves a new revenue stream with allegedly leaving out content from games and charging for them later as DLC.

Now you have the research to do a article titled “Sony Beats Microsoft Again”.
How come you didn’t point out the YOY increase for the 360?
What about the 360 being the only console to actually increase the YOY sales by 9% and the decline YOY sales of of PS3 -59%, PS2 -1%, and PSP -52%?

The hope would be that if Gamestop does decide to provide some of the used game sales to developers, that those residuals are based on the games that they sell. I know sometimes crap games get picked up in the used game market, but I would think they are the minority. Most people are picking up popular games and trying to get them on the cheap. I actually think that the compromise I noted is better for all parties. Give new games a lead time. Let developers make those initial dollars. After a certain time frame, whatever that happens to be, then open up the title to the used games market. I think that would be better for all parties concerned.

I know cars are assets, but I think you’re missing my point, there is no reason why developers should make a double profit off their products. Let’s say for example HHG’s statement is true and the developers that make these god awful games continue to flood market with these titles, what is to stop them from continuing to make these trash games if consumers who bought the game go trade the game and the developers make another profit off their trade-in?

I don’t even know why some people have gotten there panties in a bunch over that. You clearly said Sony is beating Microsoft not PS3 is beating Xbox360 and that is common knowledge.
In saying all that, there is one thing I have to comment on though and some people ain’t gonna like it. PS3 sells at 400 dollars and Xbox360 sell’s at 200 dollar’s. Why is it that Xbox 360 only manages to outsell the PS3 each week by 10-20k unit’s a week. This is very bad economic time’s we are facing and a 200 dollar consol only manages to sell on average each week 15 thousand more unit’s than a 400 dollar consol.
Sony’s game division is beating microsoft’s game division. NDP number’s are the proff of that and in my eye’s PS3 is beating Xbox360 because if you have a consol that only sells 10-20k more units a week against a consol that sells for double the price of what your’s is, then your company’s doing something wrong and you’s are the fucking looser’s.
Cars and homes and the like are different than video games. Those items serve as assets for the owners, which is why financial software has you list your home and car when you are determining your net worth. Additionally, cars and the like carry a much higher price tag so going in to trade in your car isn’t the same as walking into gamestop and plopping down some games you don’t want anymore.
As for the developers, yeah bad games are a problem, but what about those companies that make the games you love? It isn’t just developers of bad games that get hurt, it’s all developers. Also, if companies making double profits bothers you, then you should despise Gamestop. Selling used games is a pure profit business for them….and they didn’t have to do any work at all.

Good point, but I will have to disagree, so let say for example you have a Grand Am Pontiac, you trade in you car in for whatever other vehicle, do you believe GM should get a profit off your trade in? I know some developers are struggling to make a profit nowadays and it sucks, but i just don’t believe in some companies making a double profit off their products, especially if the game suck.

It’s too bad that’s the opinion that you hold regarding the used sale of video games. The video game industry is huge, that’s true, but developers struggle to make a profit or even break even on the games they make. Used game sales make that even worse, and for what? Gamestop sell’s newly released used games at a 5$ savings over what the retail price is. So you save 5 bucks and the developers who busted their asses for years in some cases saw none of that.
If Gamestop doesn’t want to share those profits with developers, that’s fine. But I think if they don’t do that then a decent compromise is to not allow used game sales of newly released titles. Give those titles a few months of real sales at retail before you cannibalize developers profits.

You know it’s too bad. You had a prime opportunity to explain why your other article’s premise was poor. Instead you tried to push the same arguments that continually got smashed in the comments. I mean I shouldn’t expect any different, it is your show and all, and you have every right to say what you want. I just figured you might want to be honest with your readers, particularly those that have no vested interest in which console company beats which. And I don’t remember anyone really pointing to pc game sales as an argument against your article, at least not in any of my posts. To each his own though. Your talk about an xbox handheld and a 720 or whatever it may be called, yeah at that point your article would be valid. At this moment in time……no its not. Also, the apple comparison made no sense….neither did bringing up the fact that Sony manufactures PC’s or laptops. Yeah Sony makes laptops…..guess what, MS doesn’t. Oh and those Sony laptops run Windows, an MS operating system, something that Sony does not produce.
And why didn’t you mention that your image came from SDF. Hiding that fact and then standing in front of a stack of different console boxes to show your “gamer cred.” It’s pretty transparent.
As for the GT5 car scan….yeah it would be cool. Problem though, how does Sony and Polyphony Digital deal with the licensing issues that would crop up anytime someone loaded up a car that they don’t have a license for? Racing games that have actual cars have to license those cars, they don’t just get to stick them in at their choosing. I would think that would cause some serious issues. If they do find a way to make that happen though….yeah it would be pretty damn cool. I just don’t quite see it happening. Aside from the licensing you have trying to create a model that matches the body style of the car, having the game on the fly create textures for that car, figuring out what type of inside they plan to give your car since you almost certainly wouldn’t get the actual inside of your vehicle. Those cars would almost certainly be of inferior quality to a car designed specifically for the game.
