KeepitTrill reports:

A Friday afternoon in Miami rang off abruptly as the sound of bullets left a man dead. Sam Ferguson, President of Don Diva Magazine, was the victim as shots were fired upon his car while he was driving.

Ferguson, 47, was driving north near Griffin Road when bullets rang off onto his vehicle. He then crashed his car into the highway median, where he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities are currently on the search for suspects connected with the crime as their only clue has lead them on the hunt for a black car with clear tail-light lenses. This, however, is the only trail as there are no suspects in the shooting. No additional information has been released as it pertains to the death and an autopsy will discover whether the man was indeed killed by the bullets that stained his car or the actual blunt trauma that could have been caused by the crash.

Tiffany Chiles, editor-in-chief of Don Diva Magazine stated that Ferguson was involved in all aspects of the operation in relation to their publication. She had brought him in close to nine months ago in order to help leave a lasting influence on the Southern Florida region as he was musically and socially connected. Having a troubled past, Chiles added that the magazine was meant to bring something positive into his life and help direct him into a better future.

Ferguson was also a Miami Hip-Hop pioneer and helped bring the bass scene to the forefront. Ferguson, also known as P-Man Sam, received some heat last year from rapper Rick Ross after interviewing him once it was discovered he was a correctional officer prior to becoming a rapper. Ross brought Ferguson with him into his neighborhood for an interview as they were associated before him joining the magazine. Ross became infuriated with Ferguson after seeing an interview with Hip-Hop Weekly as well as a Q & A that was issued in the magazine that was entitled, “Would The Real Rick Ross Stand Up.” Ross was cited as saying that he was offended by what was written and issued a challenge for him to meet him in the streets as it would become deeper than rap.

VidZone: PS3 beating online and broadcast music rivals

Posted by hiphopgamer | Real Talk with the HipHopGamer, Sony | Monday 17 August 2009 11:48 am

The PlayStation 3 music video on demand service, VidZone, is proving more popular than online and broadcast TV rivals, claims its co-founders, with music labels flocking to the service to see their artists covered by the growing format.

And speaking exclusively to GamesIndustry.biz, VidZone Digital Media has revealed that part of an aggressive expansion will involve adding commerce to the service and rolling it out into new territories.

“In terms of the music we’re receiving for the service we’re getting offered a number of world premiers of music videos ahead of MTV, MSN or Yahoo,” said Louisa Jackson, director of marketing for VidZone.

“We had to approach the major record labels to begin with but now it’s a case of labels coming back to us and saying ‘okay, how can you lead the music video strategy for the new music release of our artists?’. Which is really exciting because we’ve gone from watching a music video on TV to watching online, to a console where you’re watching both online and in a broadcast environment simultaneously.”

“By both gaming and music industry standards it’s been a phenomenal success,” she added.

The videogame business is once again taking the music industry into new, profitable markets, something that started with real artists featured on game soundtracks, and lead to projects like DJ Hero, which features an entirely exclusive soundtrack of remixes and mash-ups from producers and DJs.

“That’s a key point with exclusives because the record labels have really seen the success of the VidZone platform and the scale of it,” added Michael Russo, director of new business development. “And it’s proving itself by the number of exclusives that we’re being offered over other platforms, including TV.”

Latest figures from VidZone put the number of music videos at 13,000, with over one hundred million views, and Russo admits the company is pushing to grow those numbers rapidly. “We have quite an aggressive roll-out strategy and we would expect the numbers to increase quite rapidly over the next six to twelve months,” he said.

Although keeping plans under wraps, it’s likely there will be commerce elements added to the service, although watching videos on demand will remain a free service on the PlayStation 3.

“We’ll make some announcements in the near future about a number of different services and elements we’re going to be adding. Some of which revolve around more paid for items associated with music,” confirmed Russo. “We are exploring opportunities about interacting with other music related products around the music video. Whether they are available free or are charged is still being debated.”

Although VidZone is operated by an external company, Sony still has close involvement in the service. An update in September will add new features, including viewing videos in 16 x 9 format, improved search functions and remote keyboard support – all of which have been requested by users.

Sony would eventually like to grow the service around the PlayStation 3 consumer, in a similar way to its thriving online SingStar and Buzz communities.

“It would be great to built the whole community aspect, if you look at SingStar and Buzz, it would be great if we could harness that within VidZone,” offered Clare Sandford, European product manager for VidZone at Sony. “Whether it’s the ability to share playlists with your friends or watch videos with your friends and make comments, there’s plans to enhance it.”

The success of the service caught Sony by surprise, admits Sandford, but it was always a project that was going have difficult comparisons compared to more traditional videogames.

“It was difficult to have expectations because it’s kind of unprecedented,” she said. “It’s our first real music service so it’s difficult to benchmark against other things. We’ve had other non-game music initiatives on a smaller scale but largely the only other thing we looked at which is a free application and service was Home. It was difficult to assess how well it would do.

“On the one hand it was interesting see what the reaction would be from the community by producing a non-game service and whether we should be actually putting money more into games rather than these features. But on the other hand with a free application there’s that expectation that if it’s free people will download it for at least a look. We’re really happy with how it’s done.”

While the service is only currently available in a handful of European countries and Australia, expansion to other regions is a priority for VidZone.

“We will make some announcements shortly about territory expansion. There are plans to do that, but I can’t comment any further,” concluded Russo.

If you have been looking to pick up Dead Rising, Lost Planet, or Devil May Cry 4, then Capcom has one steal of a deal for you. This September, Capcom will be releasing all three games in a “Triple Pack” that will include all three games under the Xbox 360’s Platinum Hits label.

Dead Rising is an action horror game that has garnered praise from various gaming outlets for its unique gameplay, which allows you to fight hordes of zombies with any object you can find.

Lost Planet: Extreme Condition is a sci-fi third-person action shooter that includes both single-player and multiplayer modes. This version also includes the Colonies Edition extras, which adds new modes such as Score Attack to the mix. This game can be played over Xbox Live and you can play against players on the PC as well.

Devil May Cry 4 is the fourth game in the popular Devil May Cry franchise and is the first game in the series for the next-gen consoles. Dante, as well as a new character called Nero are both playable during the game.

This special package will be sold for a suggested retail value of $39.99 this September. This packaging is currently only for North America.

A Quick Review of Fallout 3: Mothership Zeta

Posted by PAYBACK-IRONMAN | Microsoft, PC, Real Talk with the HipHopGamer, Reviews | Monday 17 August 2009 12:49 am

Mothership Zeta is the fifth and final DLC pack for Fallout 3 and this is definitely the most unique of all the Fallout DLC because it takes players out of the Capital Wasteland and on board an alien mothership. It starts out the way you’d expect it to, you’re abducted by aliens and you wake up in a jail cell with other humans and you work together to make it to the captains bridge which can get you back to earth. The overall story of Mothership Zeta was bland to say the least and lets just say it doesn’t offer much shock value like some of Fallout 3’s other quests do.

Mothership Zeta’s main focus is on its combat and that really hurts it from being great, for the entire time you’ll be wondering down the same corridors shooting aliens in order to get from point A to B, it starts out great at first but after a while you really just want to get back to the Capital Wasteland as soon as possible. It’s very unfortunate that the main focus was on combat because Fallout 3’s main strength is in its exploration and it would have been really cool if there was more to discover in the mothership other then bland corridors.

The experience isn’t all that bad though, those that are looking for new weapons and equipment will love this expansion pack. Players will discover tons of alien weaponry that is the most powerful in the game and you’ll discover lots of items that can be sold for a pretty penny when you get back to the Capital Wasteland.

Motheship Zeta is not a that long compared to the other Fallout 3 DLC. It took me at least 3 hours to complete the entire quest and there are no side quests or interesting places to explore, so those that loved the previous Point Lookout DLC may be dissapointed by the length and the lack of exploration.

So in closing Mothership Zeta is a unique but poorly executed add on. Its to straight forward and the experience gets old pretty quick. But because I’m such a hardcore Fallout 3 fan I still had fun with Mothership Zeta and I’m sure that everyone will atleast get some enjoyment out of this DLC.

Score: 7/10
