Yes this was a great day for Sony with their Gamescom announcements but don’t get too excited as of yet because there is still a missing link from their repritoire and that’s ONLINE FEATURES. Playstation 3 has dealt with enough criticism, media bashing, and bad ports so on this day they finally tell everyone in the game industry that they are still the champions with goals to lead the market with all their platforms. The next step for Sony will be too unlock the true power of Home and the PSN network and at that very moment Sony will have officially surpassed the competition in every way.

Xboxlive the real reason why the world in gaming has flocked too Microsoft. Xbox Live is still is the #1 service to game on when it comes to online features and this poses a problem for Sony regardless of a price drop. The playstation network 3.0 update is really really good but in this war you have too be great, Playstation Home is on it’s way too true greatness and the more and more spaces that come and the ease of use the system provides will put Home and the PSN network in the frontlines of the game industry.

Sony made the right moves today but the better move is coming Janurary 1st 2010 why? because Sony will start the year off at $299 and the quote in tons of articles that we’ve seen ” Year Of The PS3″ will be a serious reality for the Playstation 3 Console. Now how can Microsoft respond to this news: (A Price Cut) wrong, Sony has already sky rocketed to the top of the charts on Amazon.com with this announcement and this is only the beginning. The tables have turned and believe it or not the pressure is now back on Microsoft so, will project natal keep Microsoft from losing the sales gap they created? can halo ODST or halo reach save the day wrong again? the problem with this situation is that Microsoft has 2 legs to stand on and that’s xbox live and 3rd party developer support.

Sony has taken a major advantage away from Microsoft with the price drop and once the PSN network can match live feature for feature for free then all Sony has to do is make sure they continue pumping out tools and working with 3rd parties in-terms of the development environment and, Sony will cruise through this generation and possibly end up on top of the 360.

Developers will be the deciding factor on who really wins between Sony and Microsoft why? because Microsoft got stronger support but the reason was cause of install base, xbox live, ease of development, and better return on investment and those advantages still exist but how can things turn around in Sony’s favor.

Marketing from Sony has been incredible lately and too see a Madden 10 commercial exclusively representing the Playstation 3 just goes too show that they are were they want too be, they are hitting there stride, and with this ultimate game line up, price point, marketing, and pspGO, Sony is no joke and a serious force to be wreckoned with at this stage of the console war.
