PS3 And Xbox360 Motion Controls Already In Place For Grand Slam Tennis

Posted by hiphopgamer | Microsoft, Real Talk with the HipHopGamer, Sony | Tuesday 15 September 2009 9:33 pm

Recently, EA Sports President Peter Moore indicated that Grand Slam Tennis would be delayed on the PS3 and Xbox 360 because of the EA Sports Active expansion that was in development. Today, Moore went into more detail with VG247 over the move, indicating that the release of the game actually hinges on the respective launches of the new motion controllers for PS3 and Xbox 360.

grand slam tennis

“You will [see the game with] the new motion technologies,” said Moore. “One thing that became glaringly obvious is that once you started playing Wii MotionPlus tennis and then you go back to [traditional controllers].”

“It’s two things,” he added about the delay to Tennis. “Active is such a powerful platform that we have to bring in resources to take advantage of that and get more stuff coming down the pipe. Secondly we’ve decided just to wait for Natal and for the Sony motion controller to come out.”

The sport of tennis is a natural extension of the capabilities of the Wii MotionPlus as is golf, so it wouldn’t surprise us if this year’s versions of Grand Slam Tennis and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 on Wii completely changes the way EA Sports handles those franchises going forward on all consoles.

Kotick Eyes The Broadband Television Market

Posted by hiphopgamer | Real Talk with the HipHopGamer | Tuesday 15 September 2009 12:10 pm

Activision’s CEO Bobby Kotick has said that there is enormous potential to expand the videogame business by bypassing home consoles and dealing directly with TV consumers.

Future products such as Guitar Hero won’t need to be tethered to additional hardware, said Kotick, in part due to the advancements in bringing broadband technology to home televisions.

“When you look at the installed bases of these devices, and you look at the size of our business today worldwide at USD 50 billion, there are so many more places that we have to exploit videogames and sell our content than we’ve been able to sell today,” Kotick told the Deutsche Bank Securities Technology Conference.

“As you start to see broadband connections to the television, that’s where you see the 350 million users who may not be tethered to an Xbox 360 or a PlayStation 3 but can have a browser on a television – that is an enormous amount of expansion opportunity.”

Kotick said that Activision intends to bring multiple products to homes directly through browser-to-TV technology.

“It’s just a question of time where you’ll see the television as an additional delivery platform independent of a console.

“I think what the untethered Guitar Hero does is it maybe equals the playing field a little bit more and gives you some leverage with first party’s on things like downloadable content or the business model.

“You should expect to see many of our products will be playable on the television independent of a console,” he added.

Further expansion can come from cash prizes in online play, said Kotick – an extension of rewarding dedicated players keen to show off their loyalty through social networking sites.

“If you bought a videogame in 1980 for the Atari 2600 and you took a picture of your high score on your television we would send you a patch that you could sew onto your jacket. That recognition system that was started in the 1980s continues today.

“As we start to add cash play and prize pay and better reward recognition systems that come through the internet, you will start to see audiences expand even further,” he said.

Highlighting the radical changes a product like Guitar Hero has brought to the current videogame business, Kotick said a simple transaction for a disc at retail has expanded with multiple opportunities to sell that same consumer additional peripherals and online content.

“Guitar Hero really represents one of the biggest changes in the way people really consume videogames. In the last cycle of videogames you spent USD 50 on a game, played it and took it back to the shop for credit.

“Today, we’ll sell you for USD 100 a guitar. You might add a microphone or drums, you might buy two or three expansions packs, different types of music. Over the life of your ownership you’ll probably buy around 25 additional song packs in digital downloads. So what used to be a USD 50 sale is a USD 500 sale today.

“And the best of all margins – the 25 per cent operating margin business – has the potential as we can see with World of Warcraft to be a 50 per cent operating margin business. What used to be a low 20s return on invested capital business is now growing to a plus 40 per cent return on invested capital business.

“And that’s just one product example. I can give numerous examples in this business model transformation that are taking place that will likely result in broader audience penetration and higher operating margins,” he concluded.

Microsoft: Zune HD Functioning As A Gaming Device

Posted by hiphopgamer | Microsoft, Real Talk with the HipHopGamer | Tuesday 15 September 2009 11:58 am

Microsoft’s newly released Zune HD touch-screen media player will function as a gaming device, Microsoft has confirmed, and 3D versions of games such as Project Gotham Racing will be available for it by the end of the year.

On the day the device launched in the US, Microsoft revealed it plans to release games such as Project Gotham Racing: Ferrari Edition, Vans Sk8: Pool Service and Audiosurf: Tilt by the end of the year. Games will be made available for purchase digitally through the Zune Marketplace, where users have access to a range of media using either a wi-fi connection or a PC running Zune software.

Free applications such as Twitter, Facebook and MSN weather will also be downloadable for Zune, Microsoft confirmed.

“With today’s announcement, the Zune business is growing into a comprehensive entertainment service that’s no longer tied to any one screen or device,” said Enrique Rodriguez, corporate vice president of the TV, video and music business at Microsoft. “Zune lets consumers connect to their music, TV shows and movie content and enjoy it on the three screens they use every day.”

The Zune HD went on sale today in the US only, at the price of USD 219.99 for the 16GB version, and USD 289.99 for the 32GB one.

Plans to release the device in Europe are yet to be announced, however Microsoft will be bringing the brand to Europe when Zune starts to deliver video content to users through the Xbox Live Video Marketplace later this year.

“Eventually we’ll offer the full digital entertainment experience spanning screens, devices, platforms and geographies,” Chris Stephenson, general manager of consumer marketing for Microsoft’s TV, video and music business, has previously commented.

NieR Replicant coming to PS3 and NieR Gestalt coming to Xbox 360

500x_nier_preview

Well it appears the Xbox 360 and PS3 will be getting their own seperate version of Square Enix’s title NieR. Last week’s issue of Famitsu left many gamers confuse (especially PS3 owners) when it introduce the newly named title,NieR Gestalt coming exclusively to the Xbox 360 and not the PS3. The issue also displayed an ad of a new NieR title called, NieR Replicant, but they’re was no other information given.

Well ladies and gentleman, in the latest issue of Famitsu,  it’s confirm that NieR Replicant is coming to Sony’s PS3. According to Famitsu, NieR Replicant andNier Gestalt are both action RPGs set in the same world. However they differ in their main character and “other areas”. According to IGN, the magazine was bit unclear in the differences between the two games. Both games appear to have a character named NieR. Both versions will have their character attempting to find a cure for a another character who has a mysterious illness. In the 360version the sick person is NieR’s daughter. In the PS3 version, the sick person is NieR’s little sister and only living relative, named Yonah. IGN also stated that the PS3 version has girl name Keine and she serves as partner character toNieR.

As stated before, two games for each system doesn’t sound like a bad deal, I’m anxious to see how both titles will turn out. More information will be reveal on the Xbox version of NieR at next week’s TGS, so I will definitely keep everyone posted.
