Sony And Microsoft Is Keeping PC Gaming From Growth

Posted by hiphopgamer | Microsoft, PC, Real Talk with the HipHopGamer, Sony | Wednesday 16 September 2009 1:16 am

Sony and Microsoft actually have something in common, and that’s the contribution towards the decline in the PC Gaming Market.

For a long time PC Gaming was considered the end all top – tier of the gaming world why? because they had the high resolution gameplay, online community, better games and exclusives, along with the ability to consistently upgrade hardware wise which consoles couldn’t and still can’t.

Sony and Microsoft has been the PC Gaming kryptonite and they are actually going in for the kill because PC Gaming is not only at a stand still but a major decline.

Games on PC’s don’t sell as well as the console counter parts and pirating issues are the worst so watch this video article for full in-depth details on why Sony and Microsoft Is Keeping PC Gaming From Growth.

actually Steam has very little pirating connecting to it and also it’s sales are not added to the titles sales counts

I’m really loving this Video Articles HipHopGamer, nice work.

You make some good points, but just a few corrections: Final Fantasy 14 and Splinter Cell Conviction are both coming to the PC… however, even though they are coming to the PC they’ll both probably be bigger on Consoles.

Like you said, Piracy is a huge issue on PC Gaming, and the major downside to me is that you might have to upgrade your PC just to play a certain game you want at a pretty high-spec, because when Crysis first came out, a LOT of PC gamers had to spend hundreds of dollars to upgrade their system with a new graphics card, etc… just to run the game.

There’s not a lot of PC exclusives, but Star Craft, World of Warcraft and Diablo is a pretty huge part of PC gaming and that’s what’s probably keeping PC Gaming afloat, because there’s HUGE demand for those games, and even though not a lot of PC games sell a lot, those games sell Millions upon Millions of copies each.

    what?
the only thing holding back PC games are the developers themselvs.
as i have stated provably 1 million times now all once PC exclusive devs have now gone MP.
crytek, valve, ID, blizzard and so on.
PC developers are getting greedy, there switching to consoles because their seeing more profit on that side and just porting it over from the consoles to the pc.
fear 2 and wolfenstine are PERFECT! examples of this, where the PC version is either the same or worse than the console counterparts.
3,4 years ago that would NEVER! happen.
the PC version of every game was always better.
now developers are getting greedy so they say screw the PC were going to where the $$$$$$$$ is.
so the only people who are holding PC gaming back are the developers.
apart from the MMOs PC has nothing ATM that will change with RAGE and half life 2 epp 3 and crysis 2. but besides those the PC has jack squat im really starting to regret building a new PC.
i could of spent 1K less, and got the same thing as what i have now.
Nvidia, ATI whats the point of releasing those new VDUs?
seriously whats the point, is there 1 game that requires the extra provided grunt?
50 bucks says no, 50 bucks says there wont be until RAGE or half life 2 epp 3 or crysis 2 is released.
and by then there will be another 10 cards more powerful than the ones due in november.
PC gaming needs to go back to its roots, it use to be made and optimized for hardware not out yet, crysis did it and crysis is STILL! the best looking game 2 years after release.
every time a game is made for the PC the devs should say ok this is the most powerful card available this is what your going to need to play on max settings.
not last years card is what you need for max settings.

    excellent article HHG.
I agree with every point, PC games are only used for MMO and mods, that is all.

If the next console have upgradable hardware, then that will definitely overshadow PC gaming.

When does GameBeef normally comes on?:)

I think that everyone seemed to have really forgotten Steam… and most 360/PC games are developed for both platforms at the same time… Because Microsoft wants their games on the PC. I know alot of hate from the PS3 fanboy is the fact that many Xbox 360 exclusives also goto the PC and personally I think that Microsoft and Valve are all that are keeping real gaming on the PC alive… Steam keeps Piracy down and Xbox 360 dev kits are easy to co-dev with PC.

    WHAT A PIECE OF SHIT!!

This articles is plenty of wrong information. Please, if you don’t know anything about PC gaming, don’t talk about it. I don’t know nything about Hip Hop, so I would never record a video talking about that. In fact I’m an expert about PC gaming.

1.- You’ve talked about titles, and exclusive titles. Ok, check this out: http://adrianwerner.wordpress.com/
Crysis, Crysis Warhead, The Witcher, Gothic 3, Drakensang, Empire Total War, Dawn of War II, The Sims 3, Sins of a Solar Empire, World in Conflict, STALKER, Company of Heroes, Titan Quest, Demigod, Red Orchestra, ArmA II, Still Life 2, Memento Mori, Ankh 3, Twin Sector, machinarium, The Whispered World, Runes of Magic, Fighter Ops, Crayon Physics Deluxe, rFactor, Trackmania, Osmos, etc, etc.
IS a fact that PC have more exclusives (and more titles) than any other platform-

2.- ONline: Best on PC. More people playing on PC, STEAM, xfire, impulse, GFW LIVE!, etc. Many services with many posibilities.

3.- Controls: More posibilites on PC, keyboard and mouse, any gamepad you want, guitars, etc.

4.- MODs: FRee content by community, not possible on any other paltform: research and development, neotokyo, portal prelude, the haunted, etc.

5.- DLC: Mostly FREE on PC (CoD4, CoDWaW, ME, FEAR2, etc.)

    6.- Graphics: REAL HD, 1080p @ 60fps an ALL games. and AA4x/AF16x

7.- Games that came after on PC: Street Fighter IV, Resident Evil 5Batman AA, Gears of War, Mass Effect, Mirror’s Edge, etc. ALL with exclusive content for PC. I prefer wait and have new content and extras

8.- You CAN connect ANY PC on ANY TV, and play on sofa.

9.- FREE games. YES FREE LEGAL games. You have PLENTY of games for FREE on PC. No piracy needed.

10.- Cheaper games: Yes, PC games are usually around 20$ cheaper. So if you buy 10 games per year, you can save 200$ (enough to update your PC every 4 years).

So please, shut the fuck up. Play on PC before speaking of something you don’t have any idea.

  8. Comment by GaN — September 16, 2009 @ 10:49 am

You CAN NOT speak about C sales if you only count US retail sales.

Retail sales on PC are dead. The future is online distribution, and Europe and Asia (growing markets) are the strongest PC markets.

Crysis, STALKER, The Witcher, Battlefield 2, Starcraft, The Sims 3, Spore, Diablo II, World of Warcraft, Left 4 Dead, CoD 4 or Gothic 3. ALL surpases 1.2 million copies, being WoW the MOST selling game of all time.

13 million people play WoW, 13 million people play on PC. More than 200 million PCs around the world.

And 90% of actual games comes out on PC aswell, and the PC version is the best of three (PC/PS3/360):

Batman AA, CoD4, CoDWaW, MW2, AC, ME, L4D, Grid, Dirt, SFIV, RE5, SC, DAO, etc.

If you have a decent PC, there’s no reason to buy a nextgen console for only 4 or 5 exclusive titles.

thanks you guys so much for the comments and support. regarding the article man just look at this right. in terms of the mass market we all want something at a good price point, great entertainment value, and something simple and easy to use. keeping that in mind consoles or PC’s which one will give you that ease of use, price point, and experience

For someone that gives two shits about PC gaming why do you waste your time talking about it? The fact that you don’t actually use accurate information like worldwide view of PC gaming, but the constant(It is fracking dead, No one is gaming on PC or it is too expensive to game on PC)

What is the point and what is the angle?

Saying that this article is wrong is just being immature and naive… Im pretty damn sure if pc was the only place where people could get video games it would be much bigger. Also anyone notice that PC fanboys are just the worst of them all… They apparently think we know nothing about gaming because we own consoles…. lol i have an nice pc and i know a hell of a lot more about gaming then some of them…. u know the ones who sit there and think they’re 1337 because they can run crysis, and spam epic FAIL every chance they get… Good read/video

I want to say although I’ma PC enthusiast, I’m also a proud owner of PSP, iPod Touch, NDS, Wii, PS2, PS3 and Xbox 360.

And I0ve enjoyed a lot game slike Halo 3, Uncharted, Little Big Planet, Fable 2, Loco Roco, Mario KArt5, Mario Galaxy, Mario Shake, etc.

And Iknow perfeclty what can I expect from consoles. What are its strong points (easier use, chepaer).
And of course nowadays consoles sells more than PC (except some games like VALVe games) games, but what can not tolerate people say lies about PC gaming. Because the last thing PC gamers need is more missinformation.

Facts or shut up!!!! Why are you constantly saying shit without any factual evidence to back up your claim? Dude give it a rest, for the sake of whatever credibility you wish to keep. PC gaming software revenue was a $12.7 billion industry in 2008 up $1.9 billion from 2007. I don’t call that a decline or mark that market as dead. Every time you do one of these articles you sound like a little kid mad because he lost an argument. In the history of HipHopGamers existence in every argument or debate in which he didn’t come out on top of he still would say “I Still feel like i’m right” Dude grow up your argument was smashed on the warzone weeks ago. Stop trying to restate your simply sided argument, every week it’s like you try to restate your original statement which was PC GAMING WAS DEAD!

You again are Wrong. Wrong Sir, Wrong!

    Deuces!
