Great show this week!
Great show as always.
I would, however, like to weigh in on this one and have to 100% disagree with comments made in the opening section of the show about Forza having “better gameplay” and Gran Turismo. Now, I would have been willing to listen and debate the issue but when damage was used as a gameplay element as to why Forza a better gaming experience to GT, I just had to call bullshit on that one.
This is supposed to be a driving/racing sim. Now had HHGS said this about versions of games like Need for Speed or Burn Out where the 360 game had cool crash crumple zone effects and the PS3 game didn’t, then perhaps I’d listen but this is not a Crash sim.
We’re talking about Driving sim and for games like this the whole point is NOT TO CRASH. The point in a sim (or one of the points) is to drive your vehicle as perfectly as possible and you’d want a game that can sim that accurately with all the tuning customizations in place. You have millions of gamers that would restart their race if they even go off the track a little bit for this game.
I’m sorry but cosmetic damage is not what makes a sim’s gamplay. If that’s what Forza’s bringing to the table then you might as well compete with the likes of Need for Speed or Ridge Racer or Midnight Club.
Further more, from what I’VE seen, Forza damage weighs heavily on cosmetics too while GT shows off something that tries to mimic reality without sacrificing the gameplay of driving the correct lines and it looks makes much better sense cause with GT car enthusiasts that aren’t normal gamers play and rely on the accuracy of this game and most of us don’t even want to see a sratch on these beauties talkless of smash them up. Great for ADD teenagers looking for a thrill but for real car enthusiasts, is about the car and how it drives.
This is what sets GT way apart from Forza. Forza is looked at as a video game, GT is looked at a sim. Gameplay wise and in every single element, GT shouldn’t even be compared to Forza at all. Fuck all that bullshit Forza/GT comparison shit. Forza should really be compared to Need for Speed: Shift kind of games.
Great show man…. King of fighters does look good man…
and about halo thing… Man u no microsoft got it coming man, i dont think they are ever going to have anoda franchise like halo however, they have big stuff coming, Alan Wake, Crackdown 2, Splinter Cell just to name some of the few… I no dey are not first party but dey are worthy exclusives to name.. Dont sleep on natal, u never no wot kinda games dat could bring man, wot if der next big BIG game comes out on natal. But wot u said is tru…. Once Halo is gone, microsoft is kinda screwed, they have nothin else as big and first party, unlike sony hu has God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5, Uncharted 2 (and u no 3 will come too), Resistance 3(which is comin), not to mention games dat have not even been talked about dat are in need of sequels, unless sony are planning to leave unfinished stories: games like Kingdom Hearts 3, PS3 Jak and Daxter… anyway enough talk.. one luv god bless

good show
on the forza vs. GT really none is better than the other from a gameplay standpoint it is just a personal liking. on the issue of life after halo im on the same page as pakizhustla. microsoft seems to follow with third parties and thats just how they do business and its profitable. there is nothing wrong with MS doing this if these games sell better on xbox. the way sony does business hey theres nothing wrong with that either not as an advantage or disadvantage. but MS does need some more MS game studio projects. i think NATAL will help with that too. either way i dont think any platform loses.

Splinter Cell is meant for Xbox 360.
Because back when the first game came out, it utilises the Xbox’s processor and shading power, it was graphically awesome! But on other platforms, it looked good but not that good. Not to mention the controls as well.
The vision meant for Xbox colour logo green, 3 googles for 360 and Sam always dressed in black, black Xbox.
Don’t forget Splinter Cell, is it Pandora Tomorrow? or the third game. That featured online support and co-op. That kind of feature only worked for Xbox because of Xbox Live.
I’m quite disappointed with TGS:/ No new games, no itagaki. Dammit man! Was it E3 or TGS? they showed lots of games man, espeically on PS3. Those games haven’t even surfaced anymore. Some Japanese scary game I don’t remember the name, Eyedentify, Darkwatch 2, CodeArms ps3 etc Even new games we are meant to hear. No words on Metroid Other M or news on Black 2.
I like your beard back in Jan:P make you look like Denziel Washington.
“everybody preparing for the next wave” lol..too much Gears of War 2 Horde mode

Great show HHG.
GTR2 is realistic. Forza and GT5 are behind as far as realism so complaining about which game has more realism is pointless. Damage is in GT5. Regular cars will have the damage that Forza 2 had, and race cars will have realistic damage. The fact is that damage is in both games. They put real damage on race cars which is what really matters. Gran Turismo has dynamic weather and night racing which is realistic. It happened yesterday in the American Le Mans series and it happens all the time in auto sports. People should talk about that instead of bitching about road cars with no racing modifications at all not having full damage which never happens in real life anyway.
I hear you HHG. I hear ya, and I understand about the aesthetics being something that’s great to have but I still disagree with making damage so much of a high focal point in regards to sim racers.
You know more about this stuff cause you’ve likely had direct viewing or hands-on on both titles but I heard PD are doing damage for all the vehicles. Can you affirm that or debunk that or perhaps shade some light on it?
Also, to your point about online damage. Again, you have more personal knowledge and insight but I was under that assumption that you wouldn’t have that type of scenario online where only some cars had more damage that others visually. I had thought if you go online with WRC, F1 or Nascar that all those type of cars would have high damage but if you have a regular race with regular cars, they’d all be the same but I jsut read about GT having damage for all cars so I’m not so sure now.
Great how the producer of the HHGS can come on and leave comments on other people’s comments. Awesome stuff.
I don’t know if anyone here has seen the damage effects on both these titles but if you have, there’s no way you can compare the damage modeling in Forza with GT. GT totally annihilates Forza in this department and every other too.
So, let me get this straight, I’m to believe that Forza has better gameplay cause 400 of their cars have weak looking damage and only 200 cars on GT have a much high level damage look than all the cars on Forza but because the 800 other cars on GT don’t have damage, Forza wins or is somehow in competition. I’m sorry but that’s total wack, crazy, nonsense, loco, madness. Nah men, that doesn’t even make sense.
If Forza gets 9s from game reviewers, I’ll know MS had a hand in it cause you know these same sites will give GT a .1 better mark than Forza in and attempt to show Forza fairly toe to toe with GT and that’s far from reality.
Forza has no weather effects, night cycles, much worse damage effects on it’s vehicles, less than 720p, only 400 cars in comparison to over 1000, no Nascar, No WRC, No integrated features like dedicated car show on NXE or youtube uploading and many many more stuff but GT will be given a .1 – .5 difference in rating?
Sorry but that’s totally bullshit and not something we should tolerate in this industry cause then we encourage developer to just put out mediocrity and bank on PR hype. E.g Halo:ODST. Now you think if reviews has said “WTF?! come MS this is halo. Do something special for this gen” we wouldn’t have and a way better expereince with ODST? MS pumped out ODST the way it is cause they knew they could get away with it cause they did the same thing with halo3 and got 10s out the yang.
Nah men, Forza is nowhere in the same league as GT, not by a mile.
1st. ODST is far from a disappointment. ODST is very new, fresh, & a different aspect of the Halo Universe. I beat ODST on Heroic yesterday & ODST could be the best of the series, I’m going to run it back in Legendary Mode by myself & with my son & or 1 or 2 of my boys. Note 1-4 players, through the Mission: a non linear mission in co-op mode. This is a mode that isn’t present in Killzone 2 nor MW2.
Also, Firefight is hot, I ran it with my son & one of my boys for 67 minutes this weekend, one stage & had a friggin blast! ODST is the ****! Many people in the media are throwing massive hate at ODST & the experience shouldn’t be missed but will to people being misled.
Also, when Cliff Bleszinski says Gears will be on PS3, that’s when I’ll believe it. Until then, its all smoke. Epic doesn’t want to lose Cliff, he’s the only guy holding the Epic fort down.
HipHop,
That’s good you guys were persistent in reaching out to The DLB Network & having Snake00 on your show. DLB is one of the better podcasts on the net behind: The Warzone & AnalogHype. I also like Gamesonsmash. I really like the DLB podcasts & its good everyone can possibly work together: its good & makes me feel better that bra’s can accomplish such a thing.
And for you & Snake00, the game of the year is: Halo 3:ODST!
great show once again man
a quick question to you all as well
doesn’t Microsoft own the IP for Gears Of War?
so no wonder why Sony can’t get the game
the other thing I find with Microsoft is that they don’t seem to like making new IPs.
Like you guys said they milk Halo for all its worth and the same really is starting to go for alot of their other games like Forza and Gears as well most likely but Sony do actually make alot more new IPs such as The Last Guardian, Heavy Rain and MAG
We’re still waiting for you to listen to the whole OB4CL 2 album.
And dissing other sites reviews is whack.
When comes to third party exclusives, I agree with HHG. MSFT is digging themselves into a hole that ain’t worth investing. For instance, they spent $50M for two GTA IV episodes, those episodes would end up coming out on the X360 anyway, and while they wouldn’t be exclusives, I thing that investing $50M into something else would be wiser like:
a) First party titles or titles — Bioshock cost $30M, if no MSFT studio can’t come up with a blockbuster with such a budget, they deserve the boot.
b) An actual new IP from a renowned third party, guess who? ROCKSTAR
c) Heck, even investing it on AAA live action Halo short, so Holywood can finally wake up and finance the $200M budget Halo sci-fi epic. If wouldn’t need to have Master Chief, and space battles, some personal, down to earth, like the sub-plot about Sadie in New Mombasa (Halo ODST), about the evacuation, it could be easily done with $50M; District 9 cost about $30M, and it looks better than most $100M movies out there.
We can all argue, that MSFT does have nice IPs under their portfolio, but the truth is, WHERE ARE THE AAA current gen titles to speak of? Nowhere. They chose to rush Fable 3, instead of coming up with something new. I like Fable, but they should treat as 3+ years in between major releases.
About GT5 vs FM3, neither game is out yet, and while I prefer FM for the customization and how I get so attached to my cars, and the online liveries; I think that GT5 will be a better game because it’s taking so damn long. FM3 had about 2-3 years of development, GT5 has 5+ years, so for all we know PD can add so much more to the game to improve the gameplay, not mentioning all of the racing events (rally, etc…).
Finally, thanks for the Wu-Tang shout outs, Wu-Tang Forever; and recommending the lost interview of Tupac, that shit was enlightening and actually made wanna go back and listen to his songs. Never been a huge Tupac fan because he propagated too much negative energy.

HHG what I think what the Ubisoft person ment was that Splinter Cell has a connection with the Xbox Live brand
I think people will figure out that Microsoft isn’t the largest software company because they make a whole bunch of stupid decisions… these guys don’t have 12 billion dollars in profits every year because they make mistake after mistake. If they reach out to 3rd party developers you think that wont pay dividends in the long run? The system isn’t going anywhere and the PS3 has a long long way to catch up in hardware and software sales… the 360 has something like 80 million selling games. That’s on a system with 32 million unit install base. And remember this is a game of Chess we are watching. Sony made this move and Microsoft only response was what was needed to maintain their sales… something that Sony couldn’t do last year. Next year and 2011 are when the gauntlets will be thrown down. I’m personally glad that Sony is back in the game and I hope they don’t start slipping again when Microsoft put the pressure on next year. Remember even the Detroit Lions can win a game.
Come on HHG…
You are saying the Xbox360 might be in a bad position after Halo? That would be 2011. Last time I checked we were still in 2009. Gears of War 3 could easily happen in 2011 or the Hideo Kojima Natal-game, or Milo or whatever.
MS knows what happens to Halo and it is save to say, they are well prepared for every possible situation.
What has Sony to offer after GT5 and God of War 3? Nothing left. All this wait untill has come to an end.
Of course both companies will secure enough top (exclusive) games for their customers.
was up king and what i mean about a bad situation is the fact that gears of war 3 is a nex gen game not a 360 game, hideo kojima is using sony motion controls as well, metal gear rising is multi-platform, my point was only regarding first party studios/titles i feel microsoft has done a good enough job supporting 3rd party now they need to focus on 1st party before it’s too late. you’ll see what I’m talking about soon in this major video article i’m working on aight
I think you think of first party games the way Sony and Nintendo have been doing it. Microsoft buys the rights to an IP and farms it out generally or they buy a up and coming IP… and example of this was Alan Wake… it went from PC,PS3,360 to just 360. And they have strong partnerships through out the western world. If they can link a brand to their system even if it’s just in the minds and hearts of gamers they don’t really need to buy the rights to the game or the developers… that being said rumors are going around wallstreet about Microsoft purchasing parts/whole of EA.
Have you guys tried Mobsters 2? It is so much better than mafia wars.
