Modern Warfare 2 Drops The Ball With 3RD Person View Attempt
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is a name that rings louder than even the great HALO but, that type of success can also come with a curse. The brand name Modern Warfare means guaranteed success which also gives developers the incentive to throw things in the mix without proper research and development to make all game additions a great one.
The announcement of Third Person gameplay for Modern Warfare is incredible but the problem is the fact that this addition was just added on instead of being something that could have lifted the overall franchise to new levels and possibly new players. This generation has seen tons of third person action games and they all have something in common which is a cover system. Amongst many other things it seems that Modern Warfare and Infinity Ward is a bit too comfortable with their success that they are willing to play rushin roulette with their game development abilities by releasing a feature that is broken.
The video article below explains it all with a special video presention and deep verbal details. Check It Out And Leave Your Comments

people are buying mw2 for the first person experience… atm the 3rd person is just a gimmick imo… if infinity ward are seriously about pushing 3rd person in future call of dutys, they need to offer something different to gamers to entice them into playing 3rd person…. im liking the idea of if you sneak up behind them instead of just simply stabbing them in the back taking them hostage would be awesome… i wouldn’t be a fan of a cover system in call of duty because most the fun of its online is its run and gun gameplay (like halo) and both these games are one of the most played online games and a cover system would really push players into a more camping gamestyle that would just be disappointing
i agree 100 % they really should add way more if they’re gonna do it….i hope they do actually take this in consideration
I see what you are saying, but you have to look at the bigger picture here. You are thinking in a perspective of a gamer, which is absolutely fine; but you also have to look in the perspective of a developer aswell. Fist off, i want to say that the third person view that was added to mw2 was for the intent of not changing the game style, nor adding on to the main gameplay ..the purpose of the third person playlist was to experience the game in a fun new unique flavor. IW never intended to make mw2 into a complete 3rd person experience, so they did not drop any ball. Imagine how difficult it would be to create a fully functional system you described, by integrating both fully functional 3rd person gameplay & 1st person gameplay. That would be like putting 2 games into one. that would double the cost of developing the game. Then that would cause consumers to back off. imagine buying a game that costs $120, rather than $60 , which is bad enough with this economy. IW would lose many of their potential buyers. The cost to make a game like the you described but but unimaginably high. This would mean double the programmers, double the designers, etc, etc. you feel my drift????
Yeah, the 3rd person view seemed quickly slapped on. Using third person view with first person mechanics does not work.
Dear Hiphopgamer – you are useless, more useless than Pachter. There is no need for your existence, or for you to declare yourself a “hiphopgamer”
Are you guys crazy? What about Fallout 3? It was designed as a FPS but I played most of the game in 3rd person. It doesn’t change much. It just gives the player an option. Why shun change? Critics of games like HHG want change and no they are bad mouthing it?
This seems to be a babbler trying to get another post read by the masses.
MW2 as i understand
Spec ops-not 3rd person
Single player-not 3rd person
Multiplayer-not 3rd person
The 3rd person is only for private game as i understand.
Only 24 people in the world like 3rd person, oops i forgot you make it 25.
You get the attention you were seeking. If mw2 ever turn into a 3rd person game they would loose many more than they would gain. You make no sense in this video. Do you know what it would take to have one side 3rd person and the other 1st person. You are becoming more moronic each show. At the end of the day, what you want is a 3rd person view for MW2 and you are trying to get the SOCOM follower to pettition. You said it at the end that it is up to the player to decide. I am not one of them that need the cheating corner camping 3rd person view in MW2.
Wow, hip hop gamer, I think you hit this one on the nose. It would of been interesting to see 1st person gamers, go against 3rd person gamers. I mean you could still do that now, but us 3rd person gamers, don’t have all the features we need to go against them fairly. I mean thats like giving them the advantage. I think, if they did do that, this game could kill records. To all you haters out there stop hating on hip hop gamer he’s good for this industry, to get the word out there, wow, nailed it.
Wow nobody remembers when call of duty ORIGINALLY had 3rd person view from pc day? Gota do ur homework man but yeah how will it work here
i just wanted to say , fuk u tony, fuk u . v much, there is also no need WHAtsoEVER for yo to come on here, watch someones opinion, and then critisize wih another opinion, now go fuk off and play modernwarefare, u acivision whore.
In short 3rd Person is straight up wack it should never be in any military style shooter game, all it does in my personal experience is promote 3rd person camping Ghost Recon did it Rainbow Six did it with cover system, and Socom Confrontation did it look where they are now no one talks about those games they don’t even compare them to 1st person games it kills the game franchise period. If IW brings this style of game play in the next release of MW-3 I will not buy the game trust me on this.
Dude. You are a moron. How can you POSSIBLY say MW2 is nothing new. Are you even FOLLOWING what they are adding to it??? I am literally not even going to waste my time listing the ENDLESS additions to the game, I just wanted to make sure you knew: You are the worst thing that has ever happened to video game journalism EVER.
NEWS FLASH FOR IDIOTS: ps3 really does blow and you know it. You just look like a moron every time you try to say “this is the year of the ps3″ or “why the ps3 is gunna beat xbox this year.” THE SINGLE SOLITARY REASON to own a ps3 is for Metal Gear. Only until VERY recently that Uncharted 2 came out did you guys get 1 more reason, ONE more!! Everyone knows this beside the idiots who spent 600 dollars on their ps3 and try to convince themselves otherwise everyday. Such as you Mr. Hip Hop Moron.
Great vidcle.
This is part of the reason I don’t pay full price for multiplats. I either rent them or buy them used later on cause it just seems like they aren’t really trying to bring better gaming experiences to gamers that have supported their 1st entries. It feels like they’re just focused on cashing in.
For example, PS3 exclusives routinely show SIGNIFICANT leaps in overall quality with their sequels. Uncharted, Resistance, Motorstorm have all shown this already and you can bet your bottom dollar we’ll continue to see it in other sequels like Killzone3 and Infamous2.
However, for so many critically acclaimed multiplat games (and yes 360 games) their sequels tend to come off and upgrades rather than true sequels. Examples I can give are Mass Effect, Halo ODST, Gears2 and MW2. There just isn’t the type of significant jump in quality for multiplat games and I really would like to understand why. With a team like IW, you know it’s not a lack of talent so.. what is it? Activision? i.e Publishing houses that really don’t want/need for more money to be put into sequels so they can get larger returns?
Kinda of sad I’d say but I’m sorry, after the quality I see in PS3 games I experience, I just can’t justify paying full price for multiplat games.
Uncharted 2 changed the gaming landscape forever, In June 09 IW said that coop would not feature in their game in october it was back in. The mode has a character (juggernaught)that has a close resemblance to a character in Uncharted 2 and does not appear in the main game. Naughty Dog release Eye of Indra, IW release MW2: Ghost. Is IW trying to pack MW2 full of stuff to compete with Uncharted 2 or do they feel that this degree of instability is a good thing? What do you guys think? No beta, no community feedback except from forums after 1st game. Third Person view at who’s request? What does it add? Has the animation for player character enough variety, options to carry off a realistic representation. Most of the NPC’s have canned animations that look great but are predefined. Do IW plan to release a buggy retail disc and fix it later like they did with MW1, with so much competition, MAG, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Flashpoint, Killzone 2 etc IW need to be careful that they do not forfeit their crown as the top FPS.
i agree that mw2 should only be FPS. 3rd person shooters like gears and uncharted work great with a cover system.mw2 is more of the run and gun game. Socom has third person with no cover system and it works fine.Idk why it works so well. I wish socom would get its act to together and make socom 2 over.
To jon: You are a complete retard if you say that ps3 blows. I’ve played both systems and I can say that ps3 has better graphics, a better controller set up (I mean come on, you have to put batteries in the xbox remote and it’s huge….what a hassle…It’s so much better to just plug in the ps3 controller in to the system and let that bad boy charge…after that it lasts aaalllll day, no batteries required.) and free online play. You CANNOT beat ps3 jon. If anything xbox blows…hard.
Oh and ps…..I got my ps3 for $299 and it came with a 120 gig hard drive. xbox is the same price (roughly) if you go with a comparable hard drive. With the price decrease of the ps3, xbox now has NOTHING on ps3.
Well by having implemented the 3rd person view the developers have attracted me and alot of SOCOM players I know. SOCOM has a simple cover system ie… leaning and low duck. The main interest though for the new MW2 is just to be able to play another 3rd person shooter online as SOCOM doesn’t really have any competitors in that regard and the latest SOCOM really shows this as they completely messed the franchise name up. Im excited for the 3rd person view and if they end up patching it to make it better somehow that would just be icing on the cake for me.
I fully agree, im always arguing with my friends about this exact topic, i actually prefer vegas 2 to modern warfare or any call of duty solely for the cover system and at least on vegas 2 theres a cheat that you can use to get the third person view and theres always a cover system. I just got the game and havent even started it yet because i wanted to see if they did finally get a third person view or a cover system. Its not just that either, in first person your actual view sucks, at least in third you have a little better view of you peripherals, thats just my opinion as an MA (thats a cop for the Navy). If call of duty could get a cover system or like he said eventually get some kind of download to make a third person cover system that would be great.

Well I been around here for a while and I found what I needed, but the points this post has touched are really amazing, everyone’s trying to either copy or follow the same thing again and again, and most of the time get really hurtled by this. I think this being the first post to really post something out of the box will really help me and many others. I think trying this is really worth. It will not be wastage of time coz in any case this will never harm our campaigns for good serps.
