Wii HD Is Here Thanks To Sony PS3

Nintendo Wii has had incredible success with their motion controller gimmick but now new challenges are here and Nintendo is in for a fight. Microsofts Project Natal and Sonys Magic Wand are ready to expand the motion control market and also take some market share away from Nintendo but, Sony seems to be in the best position to do this and here’s why.

Sony has already showed that they can outsell even the Nintendo Wii being $100 dollars higher in price and next year with the addition of the Magic Wand Sony has now become more than just mere competition but a threat to Nintendo Dominance.

Sonys Magic Wand has better precision than the wiimote, the combination of the PSEYE cam which will open up new motion gameplay opportunities, but most of all It’s all in HD.

Super Mario Galaxy in HD (Stunning!)

My god! Check the screenshots. Super Mario Galaxy in HD looks amazing. Goes to show you that all you do not need a kickass machine to get awesome visuals……you just need HD. The game obviously is not the best looking, but you can admit that it looks very pretty. The art style really works well and looks better when you can smooth everything out. This is all thanks to the Dolphin emulator. Check out the screens below and the video below for more.

From what I am seeing, the game is not looking that amazing in terms of looks, especially for a 360 and PS3 (see the video). Who knows how the game will play, but I bet you it will be very similar to the previous games with some minor upgrades. I hope I am terribly wrong, because I would like to see more new things out of this series.

The video is below and it shows off the new tournament challenge feature in which you can relive some old golfing moments. Nothing fancy or amazing, and similar features have been done in many other sports games. I hope to see more new features though.

On-Live Beats the Big Three to The Digital Distribution Punch

Posted by MattG | Real Talk with the HipHopGamer | Thursday 2 April 2009 11:04 pm

Introduction

People fear the unknown. When new ideas and technologies are first revealed to the world many people are unsure what to consider fact and what to consider empty promises. This is clearly evident in the video game industry with new technologies and ideas being revealed everyday.

Currently, the big three (Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo) are the kings of the video game industry. When it comes to home consoles, no one else compares. For the past decade all three of those companies have been dictating the new technology gamers expierence with video game consoles.

Now though things have changed because of a small company called OnLive. While you probably know about OnLive and all it’s features, you probably have your fair amount of doubt. One thing gamers must give them credit for is the fact that they have now pushed the big-three to the wall and called them out.

Digital Distribution a Generation Early

OnLive’s digital distribution plan shocked the industry with it’s reveal at GDC because the technology they were revealing to the world was consider years ahead of it’s time. How could a small upstart company create technology that blows by that of major corporations Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo? Well thats what OnLive has ben able to do.

The Technology Does Work

Reviews from GDC have come in and so far they have been nothing but positive. The ability to stream high quality PC games in the blink of an eye will not only revolutionize the console industry, but also reinvigorate PC gaming. This technology allows a new level of freedom that gamers have yet to see. They can play high end games on a easy to travel with micro-console, or on any PC/Mac that has the OnLive program downloaded on. Not only is the technology going to eliminate the need for discs, but will also allow gamers to play high quality games where they want and when they want.

The Big-Three Dropped the Ball

When OnLive launches this winter at a lower price point than any of the other consoles they will have their place in the market, but what will really be interesting about it’s release is how complacent the big three have become with their hardware and software. All three of them are multi-billion dollar companies, but aren’t nearly capable of achieving what OnLive is promising at the moment. Currently it takes far too long for gamers to download DLC or small games on Xbox Live and Playstation Network, forget about streaming full length high quality games.

Hopefully with the reveal and eventual release of OnLive the hardware giants will take notice, and begin to step up their game. Instead of growing complacent with their current progress in hardware, instead they will step up their game. OnLive will revolutionize the way we buy and play games. Who would have thought that it would start at company we had no idea about 3 weeks ago?

The sites are reporting that Japanese magazine, Famitsu, has revealed the game recently. Currently, all information is in Japanese but expect to have an english press release in the next couple of days. This is Capcom’s response to Wii owners who were upset over the fact that the Wii wasn’t getting a Resident Evil 5 port.

2009 Has Just Begun. Sony Hasn’t Won Anything Yet

Posted by MattG | Real Talk with the HipHopGamer | Friday 6 March 2009 5:11 pm

Since the new year began, Playstation 3 fans have been all riled up constantly saying, “This is the year of the PS3. Sony is going to kill the Xbox 360 this year.” While Sony may have the better lineup in 2009 at the moment, I wouldn’t count out Microsoft or Nintendo just yet.

Now to start off, I want to say that I think the PS3 has a great 2009 lineup with games such as Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, inFamous, Flower, Yakuza 3, etc. There are just some things I want to inform fanboys about their lineup. God of War III, M.A.G, and Final Fantasy XIII Versus are not coming out this year. You guys can keep holding onto a glimmer of hope that they will come out, but they aren’t. God of War III will be out next spring, we have not heard anything about M.A.G since E3 2008, and Versus is not coming out till after Final Fantasy 13 is released. I’m mentioning these games because there are a lot of fanboys who throw out these games as the reason why 2009 is the year of Sony.

I also want to mention Heavy Rain. Seriously, I don’t get the hype around it. We have only seen a couple of screens and a couple of trailers. The only gameplay the world has seen is a bunch of quicktime events. I like the idea they are going for, but are you really willing to spend $60 for an interactive movie? Maybe, they will prove me wrong but I don’t consider that a AAA title. At least, until more information comes out it should not be receiving the hype it is. Altogether though the PS3 has a very strong ‘09, but people need to stop heckling the other consoles.

Microsoft and the 360 has received a lot of unnecessary bashing because of their game lineup in 2009. People are saying that there is nothing the 360 can do to put itself on the PS3’s level. Really? The console that has had equal or better game lineups every year since the PS3 came out is going to die because they are starting off year slow? Weren’t Microsoft fanboys saying the same thing about the PS3 in 2007 when they had Halo 3, Mass Effect, and Bioshock all come out exclusively for the console? Now look how the tide has turned. Microsoft is going to announced at least 2-3 unannounced titles between now and E3 2009. If I were to guess, they would be the new project Lionhead Studio is working on, a Rare project, and maybe Mistwalker’s new IP that Sakaguchi mentioned on his blog a few months back.

Anyway, I’m tired of the PS3 fanboy being so close-minded about this. They think this is the original Xbox were talking about and that Microsoft is ready to fold. No, they aren’t. Look at their current exclusive lineup for 2009: Halo Wars, Halo: ODST, Ninja Blade, Star Ocean 4, GTA: Lost and Damned, and multiple Fallout 3 DLC. On that list, you have two Halo games, the biggest JRPG of the year so far, what looks to be the best console RTS of the year, and expansions to two of the best games of 2008.

Now don’t give me that crap that Lost and Damned and Fallout 3’s DLC aren’t really a whole game, or that it’s just DLC. DLC is map packs, costume packs, and online maps. These are games that are 7-12 hours long. That’s the same length or longer than Killzone 2, Halo 3, etc. These are full length games for half the price. They just don’t have the hype around it because gamers have been there and done that. Yet if anything, these games are a safer bet than the PS3’s exclusives. People know what they are getting because both GTA and Fallout 3 were classics. We don’t know if the PS3 games are going to live up to the hype or not. Hopefully, but you never know.

Don’t count out Microsoft because they are going to announce some heavy hitter games for the Fall. Remember that Gears of War 2 wasn’t even announced until Spring of 2008, and no one was talking about Left 4 Dead until E3 2008.

Also why do people continue to count out Halo 3: ODST? This game is being developed by Bungie who continually have a high pedigree in games. Every Halo game they have made in the past have won Game of the Year awards. This game is going to feature a 5-7 hour campaign and online. It’s pretty much a full length Halo game minus Master Chief. Wait, until we see gameplay and hear more news on this game before considering it a non-factor.

Then we have Nintendo. Honestly, they have a better lineup than people think. This includes MadWorld, The Conduit, Monster Hunter 3, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles – Echoes of Time, Sin and Punishment 2, Punchout, and Wii Sports Resort. You add that onto the fact that Nintendo is bound to announce a major game at E3, and 2009 looks pretty good for the Japanese console maker.

Now I understand that it is Nintendo, so people are hesitant but these are quality titles. Monster Hunter is completely huge over in Japan. It’s one of the most well respected titles over there, and the same goes for Sin and Punishment 2. Both games should have Western Wii owners very excited. The Conduit and MadWorld are simply fun games. They may not have the graphics of Gears 2 or Devil May Cry 4, but people play games to have fun and these games will deliver that. Also if you are a fan of Final Fantasy, then this may the only home console Final Fantasy game you see all year. Nintendo is improving their lineup this year over last year. They will be competing with Microsoft and Sony until the end of the year.

Is 2009 the year of the Playsttion 3? Maybe it is, but this year is far from over. Microsoft and Nintendo are not going to sit around and let Sony get all the hype in the industry. Currently, I agree that Sony has a stronger lineup, but I understand that Microsoft will not sit around and be pushed around. E3 this year will be the most exciting this gen because all three consoles will have big announcements. 2009 is the year of the gamer and not a specific console.

Is MadWorld The Game Hardcore Wii Fans Have Been Waiting For?

Posted by MattG | Real Talk with the HipHopGamer | Thursday 5 March 2009 6:05 am

Since E3 2008, Wii owners have been begging Nintendo for a game for the hardcore. With MadWorld  less than a week, can PlatinumGame’s first game change Wii owners tune?

Madworld, is a black and white third person action game set in a city where a group of terrorists have turned the city into a game show called Death Watch. The player plays as Jack, who is fighting for his life trying to shut down the show. The game is extremely brutal and will appeal to Wii owners who want a change of pace from Mario Kart and Animal Crossing.

While many have blasted Nintendo for not giving the Wii high quality graphics, the developers at PlatinumGames have created an art style that makes the game appealing on the eyes, and does something no other next gen console has done yet. The game has a comic book feel to it, and may remind some of the Sin City comics.

The game is extremely action packed. Jack is a big guy with a chainsaw attached to his right arm. Not the typical Wii main character. The game features many over the top finishing moves and action sequences. People who don’t enjoy violence should probably not pick up this game, because it is filled with plenty of it. There is even a mini-game called “Man Darts”, in which the player hits enemies into a dart board with a baseball bat.

Now can this game live up to the hype many Nintendo fans have put on it? Well, if the staff at PlatinumGames lives up to their reputation then it most certainly should. While the studio is new, the men behind the scenes have some of the best resumes in the industry. The producer of the game, Atsushi Inaba, is responsible for fan favorites, Viewtiful Joe and Okami. Both games have received stellar review scores, so hopefully MadWorld will continue the trend.

While, not many reviews on the game have been released yet there is one worth mentioning. Nintendo Power rated the game a 9/10. This is interesting because in the past Nintendo Power has rated games like Resident Evil 4 for the Wii with a 9/10, and Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess a 9.5/10. This is putting MadWorld up there with the higher echelon of not only Wii games, but games in general.

Is this what Wii fans want though? Will they go out and buy MadWorld, or will they just sit back and patiently wait for Miyamoto to announce another sequel to one of his storied franchises? Wii owners looking for an action packed game that breaks the casual trend Nintendo is going on should check out MadWorld. The game may not be an epic, but if you’re looking for a fun time and interesting gameplay why not pick it up? This game isn’t for young kids or grandmas, but those aren’t the people begging for hardcore games for the Wii. Nintendo fanboys, go out and buy MadWorld. Show Nintendo that while gamers appreciate the Wii’s casual appeal that they still want fun, exciting, hardcore new IP’s from the company that started it all.
